Santa was good to me this year.  I got a Bengals toaster, a new authentic Dalton jersey and a playoff berth.  It feels so good to be here.  Playoff bound, a good core group of guys and a team that finally looks to be on the up-and-up.  People will talk about this Sunday’s game against the Ravens and why is does or doesn’t matter (everyone knows that it does) but there is something else that has got me thinking.  Who will we play the first round of the playoffs?  There is possibility that we could play one of four different division leaders.  What are the scenarios?  What are the match-ups?  Let’s find out. New England Scenario:  NE win, Denver win & Houston win or NE loss & Baltimore loss. What scares me: Tom Brady and the offense. Doesn’t bother me: Defense. If the season ended today this is who we would be playing…and my least favorite choice.  There is just something about a Tom Brady offense that scares the crap out of me.  We do have one of the best defenses in the league but I don’t expect a brick wall to stop a high speed train either.  The upside is that that their defense is atrocious.  The only thing they got going for them on that side of the ball is their run D and that’s still 12th in the league.  Still, I don’t like this match-up. Houston Scenario:  Houston loss, NE win & Denver win. What scares me: J.J. Watt Doesn’t bother me: The passing game. I do have to say that this match-up has some appeal to it considering it would be the rematch from the wild card game last year.  We’re a better team now…but so is Houston.  Foster is still beast and Schaub is an improvement over Yates.  Then there is Watts.  It’s obvious that we’ve had a problem with the defense getting to Dalton as of late and having the ‘sack master’ on the other side of the line won’t help either.  I feel this match-up is a little better than NE but not my favorite. Denver Scenario:  Denver loss & NE win. What scares me: Peyton Manning Doesn’t bother me: Run D Here’s another chance at redemption.  I think the game against the Broncos earlier this year was a winnable one.  We had just started turning our season around and I think a rematch will show the progress we’ve made.  Manning is a nightmare and containing him is a job that no one wants.  The second thing that scares me the most are the DBs.  They have a combined total of 16 INTs on the season.  Dalton will need to thread the needle even better during this match up.  A little better match-up but still not my first choice. Baltimore Scenario:  Baltimore win & NE loss. What scares me: Ray Rice Doesn’t bother me: Everyone else. Here it is.  I think this is our best match-up.  I know…it would require us to lose this week, which we should not do on purpose, but I think this is our best match-up.  We’re the most familiar with this foe and have the best chance of beating in a playoff game (in my opinion).  Flacco has been struggling lately and the defense just aren’t the cutthroat squad they have been in the past.  I think our only challenge with this game would be Ray Rice.  Containing the run and forcing the other team to throw has been a good tactic for us all year and we’d have to knock it out of the park with the Ravens to be successful. So here it is.  We’ll find out who it’s going to be by Sunday night. Take Our Poll   P.S.  Bengals beat the Ravens on Sunday 17-13.

Analyzing Brady's Recent Struggles

Tom Brady is now up to 8 INTs on the season, but not so long ago he only had 3. Brady has always been streaky when it comes to INTs. Hopefully he can start another INT-free streak heading into the postseason. Still, let's examine why he has fallen into this little slump as of late.Brady throws a lot of passes into tight windows, so tipped passes are usually the main culprit of...

Dolphins bow to Brady, Pats in season finale

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes and the New England Patriots regained their dominance after a rare slump, earning a playoff bye with a 28-0 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Stevan Ridley ran for two touchdowns as the Patriots used a ball-control offense and a defense that racked up a season-high seven sacks. Now, seeded second in the AFC, they...

Patriots lock up No. 2 seed in AFC

Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes and the New England Patriots regained their dominance after a rare slump, earning a playoff bye with a 28-0 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Stevan Ridley ran for two touchdowns as the Patriots used a ball-control offense and a defense that racked up a season-high seven sacks. Now, seeded second in the AFC, they have an extra week to savor...

Patriots To Wrap Up 2012 On Sunday

It’s hard to believe, but another NFL regular season winds down this weekend. Another season of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick will be in the books. What a run it has been. Why not try to enjoy it while we still have it? As for Sunday, it seems pretty simple. If the Texans win, I think the Patriots treat this week as their bye. As many key players as possible will be rested. There...

Patriots-Dolphins Live: Tom Brady Looking to Keep Patriots’ Bye Hopes Alive As Miami Visits

10:30 a.m. ET: There is still plenty left to be uncovered in the AFC playoff picture, but the Patriots can at least help their own cause with a win over the Dolphins. After an ugly win down in Jacksonville last Sunday, Tom Brady and the Patriots will host another Florida foe this weekend as Miami pays a visit to Gillette. If the last game between these two is any indication, then...

Patriots Get Late Christmas Present with First-Round Bye, Chance to Get Healthy Ahead of Playoffs

FOXBORO, Mass. — Christmas came a few days late for the Patriots this year, but Tom Brady‘s fine with that as long as it mean his present came in the form of a first-round bye. “Yeah, it was kind of a late Christmas present,” Brady said with a smile after Sunday’s game, “So we accept.” Santa wasn’t the one delivering the gift at Gillette Stadium on Sunday — that...

Vote: Would You Rather See the Patriots Play the Bengals or Colts if They Play Wild Card Weekend?

The Patriots are still holding out hope for a first-round bye as they head toward the postseason, but all likelihood points toward Tom Brady and company hosting a game on wild card weekend. Unless the Texans or Broncos fall flat on their faces this weekend — which is possible considering Houston’s visit to Indianapolis and Denver’s struggles with Kansas City earlier this season...

Dolphins at Patriots game preview

Game time: Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET TV: CBS The New England Patriots should have a pretty good idea whether their regular-season finale has any significance in the AFC playoff picture before the opening kickoff. Either way, it may mean something to their confidence heading into the postseason. After a pair of uninspiring starts, the Patriots look to produce a better first half of...

Round Table: Late Season Momentum

After a lackluster performance against the Jaguars with many starters out of the mix, how concerned are you that the Patriots may be a little rusty for their opening playoff game? Stephen:  Despite the stinker the Patriots threw up in Jacksonville, I'm not concerned about them being rusty for their opening playoff game. After Tom Brady ripped into the team in the locker...

Patriots take the Season Phinale 28-0

The 2012 Regular Season has come to an end. Thankfully, we have more football to look forward to with the playoffs starting next week. But thanks to the Houston Texans' loss to Indianapolis earlier, the Patriots' win over Miami today clinched them the #2 seed in the AFC, and therefore, a first round bye.    It seems like the Miami Dolphins did not want...

The Patriots move to number two seed after 28-0 win over Miami

With the Houston Texans losing to the Indianapolis Colts earlier in the afternoon, the Patriots needed to take care of business against the Dolphins in order to move into the second seed of the AFC and earn a first round bye. They did so in convincing fashion, riding two touchdowns a piece from both Tom Brady and Stevan Ridley to a 28-0 route.Rob Gronkowski returned in this game...
