This is the picture I will remember.
It pains me to write this but I think you are the only one I can connect with and we can deal with this pain together.
1) The next man up (draft and develop) mentality vs. win now
Granted, the Packers have been probably the most injury stricken team since 2010, you need more than just warm bodies to field a team.
There are two players from 2010, soon to be 3 with Woodson, that the Packers have not replaced. Cullen Jenkins, Nick Collns (his career ending injury was catastrophic) and soon to be Chuck Wood. I know we need to build the team from within, but would you not agree that you cant wait 3 years to try and develop a replacement after loosing a game changer. We need to at least try and take a chance to get immediate starters
2) if you are going to draft and develop, you cant miss on first and second rounders. Ted has been great with his skill position picks but his O-line and Defensive picks have killed us. 2010 – Bullaga – will be serviceable if he comes back from injury but nothing like the 49er’s have, Mike neal – non factor, Newhouse – warm body – cant find another playoff team that has a 4th rounder starting at left tacke, C.J Wilson – again nothing special, Shields, Zombo and Starks – don’t need to say anything but they were all starters at one time. 2011 – Sherrod – non factor, supposed to be our starting LT, Although Carimi has been a bust in Chicago, Devon House – might be alright.
M.D Jennings undrafted and he’s a starter. 2012 – Nick Perry – hurt non factor – not another Clay Matthews like we hoped. Jerel Worthy – hurt non factor. Hayward is a keeper. Daniels may be serviceable. Mcmillan non special . Starting right tackle – undrafted Barclay – a road grader may be a better guard.
Basically marched out the same defense as last year and expected different results – Thinking the drafts picks would turn the D around this year was crazy. Again sign a free agent for some immediate help
2010 was a pipe dream with a lot of guys playing way over their heads. Nick Collins was the rock we are missing.
3) The notion that Packer don’t really need a running game is Horse ****.
Lets look at the running backs from the 8 teams in the playoffs this weekend
Broncos – Noshawn Moreno – better than average
Ravens – Ray Rice – Awesome
49ers – Frank Gore (and Colin Kaprenick) – no Comment
Texans – Arian Foster – yep
Seahawks – Beast Mode
Falcans – Micheal Turner
Patriots – only thing close to Packers – Danny Woohead and Steven Ridley – there running game is 5 yard passes to Welker, Gronk and Hernadez
Packers – Ready for a steaming pile – Ced Ben, Alex Green, Starks, Ryan Grant, Brandon Saine, Dujan Harris
Harris has the most potential of them all and that is not saying much
Rogers is now 30 and the window is closing. Maybe 6 to 7 years left. If things go right we may get there once or twice. Like I said shaping up much like Favre and wondering a lot of what ifs
So as we watch Brady play in his 6th Super Bowl this year we can only hope for next year.
Please feel free to agree or disagree
I got a trail cam pic of Kaprenick running through my back yard last night
