Just a week ago, there was a significant chance that the New England Patriots were going to add yet another weapon to their already crowded arsenal when they hosted former Indianapolis Colts tight end Dallas Clark for a workout at Gillette Stadium. That ultimately did not happen as Clark went on to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

If Clark were to have signed with the Patriots, he would have been following his former teammate Joseph Addai and joining the NFL’s most productive tight end tandem of Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.

So why did he pass on the opportunity of joining the reigning AFC Champions and signing with the Bucs? Well, in Clark’s eyes, “it just didn’t make sense.“

It was really weird. After a few minutes of just kind of getting over that, just focusing on the opportunity and the option to play for the organization then you start really getting excited and geared up. What a class act organization and coaches and everyone involved, and the players over there. It’s a special place, that’s for sure, but it just didn’t make sense to go there compared to Tampa.

You certainly cannot blame Clark passing on the Patriots to sign with the Bucs and have a legitimate chance of logging some significant playing time. If he were to have signed with New England, he would have been slotted behind Gronkowski and Hernandez and then would have been on a long list of weapons that Tom Brady has to throw to—which consists of new-comers Brandon Lloyd, Jabar Gaffney and Anthony Gonzalez as well as Wes Welker and Deion Branch.

The 32-year-old Clark has played in just 17 games over the past two seasons but still has remained rather productive, as he caught 34 passes for 352 yards and two touchdowns with the likes of Curtis Painter, Kerry Collins and Dan Orlovsky throwing to him this past season with the Colts.

With Clark expressing his thoughts on New England’s organization as being “classy,” I can assure you that Clark comes off as a classy individual, and I wish him the best of luck with Tampa Bay

Will Lloyd’s arrival in New England leave Ochocinco jobless?

In 15 games during the 2011 NFL regular season New England Patriots WR Chad Ochocinco was uncharacteristically out of sync.  With career lows in receptions (15), yards (276) and touchdowns (1), reports surfaced that Ochocinco was struggling and couldn’t stay on the field because he didn’t know the playbook.  With 11 years behind him in

My way too early 2012 NFL predictions – AFC edition

Which of these AFC quarterbacks will lead their team to Super Bowl XLVII? Seeing as how we are now closing in on the month of June and most teams are currently conducting or have already conducted their offseason OTAs, what better time than to stick my neck out and make some (very, very) early pre-season predictions? Since rosters are still at their pre-season maximums...

Patriots’ Brian Waters never actually planned on retiring?

The Patriots scooped former Pro Bowler Brian Waters in the preseason last season and he played better than maybe even they could have ever imagined, making the Pro Bowl on a New England line that was one of the best in the league and helped the Patriots make the Super Bowl. However, at 35 years of age, there was some doubt about whether or not he’d return for his 13th NFL season...

Wes Welker Scolded by Little Kid in Letter Asking About Super Bowl Drop (Photo)

Kids really do say the darndest things. Wes Welker found that out recently, as he was the subject of a rather angry letter from a little kid named Colombo. The upset Patriots fan expressed displeasure about Welker's Super Bowl drop, asking the receiver why he wasn't able to haul in the fourth-quarter pass. The grammar in the letter isn't perfect, but Colombo gets his...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Fantasy Football Projections

QB Josh Freeman (Tampa Bay) Josh Freeman was pretty bad in 2011, throwing 22 interceptions to 16 touchdowns and only 3592 yards. However, he’s not even 2 years removed from throwing for 25 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in 2010, with 3451 yards passing. He also has a new #1 wide receiver in Vincent Jackson, two upgrades on the offensive line with Carl Nicks coming in and pushing...

Patriots WR Brandon Lloyd Already Up To Speed

New Patriots receiver Brandon Lloyd has been impressive during the team's OTAs, but many people expected that. After all, Lloyd is on his third stop with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and knows the playbook and play calls like the back of his hand. Lloyd has been so impressive that the Boston Globe reports that Patriots quarterbacks have been looking for him all week because...
