Oft-injured New England tight end Rob Gronkowski, who most recently had his season ended last month due to torn knee ligaments, could end up being one of the NFL's top bargains, even considering all of the time he has missed due to health problems. Gronkowski, who signed a new deal prior to the 2012 season that was commonly represented as the highest-ever at his position, could in fact end up averaging just over $4 million a season for the Patriots and could be gone by the 2015 season. Gronkowski, whose health history led to him signing a team-friendly extension in the first place, has most of the money in this deal tied up from 2016-2019, which at this point he is unlikely to see. Gronkowski is set to make $15 million alone in 2015, in the form of $5 million in salary (which is guaranteed only for injury but not for cap or production purposes), as well as a $10 million option bonus that the Patriots could opt to pick up at any point in the 2015 league year. Numerous sour...

  • The Gronk has thrilled us all in Patriot Nation. His energy, youthful playfulness, and love of the game, has brought excitement to all of football. At this point, I hate to see him subject his body to further injury in pursuit of his passion. I only hope he does what's best for himself.

Tom Brady Says Accolades Don’t Weigh As Heavily to Him As Championships When Asked About Peyton Manning’s Record

Tom Brady did not sound overly upset that his single-season touchdown record had been broken by Peyton Manning. All the Patriots quarterback seemed to care about was that his team was one step closer to winning another Super Bowl. Brady set the record in 2007 with 50 touchdowns. Manning has 51 passing scores through 15 games after Sunday. “I think the individual awards and accolades...

Patriots’ Offense Not Perfect Without Rob Gronkowski, but Tight End’s Injury Will Not Tank Season

After the Patriots’ offense looked lost in the red zone in their first full game without Rob Gronkowski, it was looking like the season had ended prematurely. New England had reached its breaking point. And even if the team’s bandwagon wasn’t totally empty, it was getting pretty barren. Anyone remaining was peering over the sides, waiting to leap out at the first sight of...

Kenbrell Thompkins, Nate Solder Ruled Out for Patriots Against Ravens

Nate Solder will miss the first game of his three-year career. The left tackle suffered a concussion in consecutive weeks and has been ruled out on Sunday despite practicing on Thursday and Friday. Wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins has also been ruled out against the Ravens. Thompkins injured his hip against the Texans in Week 13. He has not played since, though he has practice...

Nate Solder, Kenbrell Thompkins Ruled Out for Ravens Game

The Patriots have announced two more inactives for tomorrow's game against the Ravens. One is not a surprise given his recent injury issues. The other is more surprising. Both Nate Solder and Kenbrell Thompkins were not given medical clearance to play today: Nate Solder and Kenbrell Thompkins have been ruled out. Neither could get final medical clearance today...

Patriots, with help, avoid putting panic into playoff hopes

When Sunday morning began, I was more than ready to go into panic mode for the 2013 New England Patriots. Perhaps its an old holdover from Boston sports of yore, but a loss from the Patriots on Sunday combined with a Miami and Cincinnati win would have put me into full on panic mode, something I have not felt since the 2011 season. In fact, the post I would have put up probably...

Shane Vereen Suffers Groin Injury

Patriots RB Shane Vereen left Sunday's game with a groin injury and is questionable to return.Fantasy Spin:Vereen did have a four-yard touchdown on his only catch of the game, but he'd finish with six fantasy points if he can't return.

Round Table: Managing the Run Game

The Patriots averaged 4.4 yards per carry against Miami, but turned away from the run in the red zone.  Part of this may be due to concerns about fumbling.  How should the Patriots manage the run game moving forward? Raj:  Just go all out to be honest. Because numbers like that won't help, it's time to try something new. There's no doubt it's a risk and could backfire...

For Devin McCourty, Ending the Ravens Playoff Hopes Would Be Extra Sweet

Devin McCourty obviously wants the Patriots to win their next game. In doing so, the Patriots would wrap up the AFC East and still be in contention for a first round bye in the playoffs. Of course, the fact that the game could also end the Ravens playoff hopes adds a little extra incentive for the Patriots, as Devin McCourty made clear, per Sports Glory: “I’ll put...

Patriots head to playoffs with 41-7 rout of Ravens

The Patriots are in the postseason. New England dominated the Ravens Sunday afternoon, suffocating the Baltimore offense and putting up 17 first-half points on the way to a 41-7 win over the Ravens in front of a packed house at M&T Bank Stadium. Thanks to Buffalo’s win over Miami, the Patriots (11-4) clinched the AFC East even before they took the field. But the victory over...

Manning ties NFL TD passes record with 50

Denver's Manning did it on a 20-yard touchdown pass to Eric Decker with 6:57 left in the fourth quarter Sunday against the Houston Texans. He entered the game with 47 and his first touchdown came on a 36-yard pass to Demaryius Thomas in the second quarter, and the second one was...
