Vincent Jackson will be taking his talents to Tampa

Unless you are a fan of the Buccaneers it’s hard to put into words what last season felt like losing 10 straight games in a row and watching a team that at times appeared to leave it all out on the field …

In the first quarter!!!

The problems that popped up for this Buccaneer team kept multiplying and at the end of the season the fans were just glad that the whole thing was over. Of course the Head Coach had to be the guy to go because simply put … you can’t lose 10 games in a row the way they did and keep your job. This brings us to our current state of affairs.

The Bucs closed the first day of free agency by signing Vincent Jackson to a 5 year / 55 million dollar contract with 36 million guranteed in the first 3 years.  Buc nation is excited, but this was a move they had to have.

Perception vs Reality

When it comes to the fans reality runs a distant second to how things are actually percieved. Last year the Bucs had so much money to spend and they came away with one player.

A Punter.

Who would have thought that a kicker would be the best offensive weapon the Bucs would have last year? The front office sold the Coach and the fans on the “youth movement” and 10 losses in a row, a fired head coach and a 4-12 season later the fans were looking at this team with the stink eye. According to the fans these owners were cheap and they weren’t going to spend money.

That was the word on the street so what next?

The Bucs bring in a new regime and told the fans that they “would spend whatever it takes.” .. Really? .. Fans were skeptical and this jaded fan base was waiting for the front office to give them a reason to riot. “See watch them mess this up like they did last year.” .. “Glazers don’t care, they’re making money regardless … Those were the words from the fans which brings us to day 1 of Free Agency.

Closing the Deal

It was obvious that after a great rookie year Mike Williams did nothing to solidify that he was a number 1 WR. He simply couldn’t adjust to the different schemes and double teams that DC’s threw at him this year. As far as the other wide receivers? … Well if your not a Bucs fan name 2 or 3 other wide receivers that are on the squad.

Exactly .. One of the most glaring needs of this squad is a play making wide receiver that Josh Freeman can throw too. Insert Vincent Jackson to fill said need, but could the Bucs be able to get him? If Jackson wasn’t available there were still guys like Mike Wallace, Pierre Garcon, Reggie Wayne, and other guys available. However, once guys starting getting franchised the pickings became slim. Garcon flew off the board by 4:15 and word was that Jackson was in “talks” with the Bucs. I texted my buddy and said “Tampa better not let Jackson leave without a deal.” If they failed on Jackson and allowed them to use them as leverage this fan base was going to riot. You could already here the calls on sports talk radio in Tampa.

“Oh here we go again, I knew they would mess this up.”

They HAD to close this deal even if it meant over paying a little bit. They couldn’t come back to this fan base and say “hey we tried, give us some credit.” No, support from the Dungy years is now fading and they needed a splash. They needed something to believe in going into next season and by closing this deal they now have the fans attention. There are still holes to fill but for as far as day 1 is concernced, Buc Nation is pretty ecstatic.

Bucs sign WR Vincent Jackson for 5 years

Free agent wide receiver Vincent Jackson has signed a five-year, $55.55 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jackson was one of the top wideouts available in free agency once San Diego decided not to give him the franchise tag. It didn't take him long to hook up with Tampa Bay and quarterback Josh Freeman, in whose honor Jackson got all those 5s in the deal; Freeman...

Watch SOJA Recruit Vincent Jackson For The Redskins (VIDEO)

This ship sailed with Tampa Bay signing Vincent Jackson and the Redskins signing Pierre Garcon, obviously, but here’s video from Sunday of SOJA (Soldiers of Jah Army, bumbaclot) taking time out from their San Diego show to try and persuade V-Jax to come play for their hometown Redskins. RG3 references abound, as do some pretty amazing dreadlocks. Programming Note: I’m saying...

Washington Redskins could be off-season champs for the right reasons this year?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers shelled out $56 million for a 5 year contract with $26 million of it is guaranteed for wide-receiver Vincent Jackson.  HUGE payday for the 29 year old wideout and thankfully for Washington Redskins fans, it was not their favorite team that shelled out that kind of money to just one player. Most people thought it was surprising that the Washington Redskins...

Bears like Stephen Hill at 19

It’s no secret that the Chicago Bears have a huge need at Wide Receiver.  I was one of the first to report the news that Vincent Jackson was a favorite target of the Bears. It’s also not a secret that the Bears, very publicly, are testing the waters with potential first round prospect Stephen Hill. [...]

Merriman Tweets Vincent Jackson; Bills Fans All A-Twitter

Okay, Shawne, maybe Buffalo should keep you. Yesterday, Bills oft-injured linebacker (and future 4-3 defensive end) Shawne Merriman showed he may have some worth to the success of Buffalo, whether or not he plays another down on the field. Though he's spent two years with the Bills, Merriman has played in exactly five games in the red and blue, all of them in 2011. He's...

Will Vincent Jackson, Cortland Finnegan Unite With Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

Many in the media, along with the entire fan base has come down like a ton of bricks it seems over the years on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for not taking advantage of immense available cap space on the open market. Since 2003, the Buccaneers have either finished 3rd or been the bottom-dwellers of the NFC South seven times combined. The team has approximately a whopping $42.7 million...

2012 Free Agency - Early Fantasy Football Impact

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Will Regret Vincent Jackson signing - I know that fans are going to be excited about this signing, but I think this move will not be the move that saves the Buccaneers offense. They signed Jackson to a five-year $55,555,555 contract with $26 million guaranteed. Jackson had played the seven previous seasons for the San Diego Chargers.

Buccaneers Reel In Vincent Jackson

Wide receiver Vincent Jackson has agreed to a five-year deal with the Buccaneers worth $55M. Fantasy Spin: Jackson should remain a No. 1 caliber fantasy receiver, while the stock of young gun Josh Freeman is bound to go back up following a disappointing 2011 campaign.

DJ's Deal, and the Eagles become the Phillies

So the football laundry did the deal with WR DeSean Jackson today, with a thoroughly sensible 5 year deal for $51 million that doesn't tie the club down too badly in event of injury or ineffectiveness, and gets him in under the gun. You can't argue that he's overpaid, given the insane cash thrown at Calvin Johnson, the better money thrown at Vincent Jackson, and the comparable...

San Diego Chargers not expected to be major players in NFL Free Agency

The NFL free agency period opens this afternoon at 4pm EST, but don’t expect the San Diego Chargers to be major players, chasing big name stars which become available today.
