Simply put, the Eagles should trade up for Anthony Barr because he’s worth it.  Yes, he’s worth giving up a second or third round pick in a draft where the Eagles already have a limited number of picks. I’m sure this idea will be met with resistance because nobody wants to give up a premium pick in a loaded draft.  Hell, I’d still be hesitant to pull the trigger, but there’s something about the thought of landing a prospect like Barr that really intrigues me. Here’s why… First, let’s start with the obvious.  Barr is a gifted athlete who plays the position of biggest need for the Eagles.  He has the talent and production to go along with the mental and physical characteristics of a player who projects extremely well to the NFL. I’m sure you’ve seen his stats and measurables (from mockdraftable.com) by now, but here they are again: Height: 6′ 5″ Weight: 255 Arm Length: 33½” Hand Size: 9⅜” 10 Yard Dash: 1.56 40 Yard Dash: 4.66 Bench Press: 15 Vertical Jump: 34½” Broad Ju

Philadelphia Eagles: Three late round sleepers to target

Replacing Desean Jackson is not an easy task. He provided the Eagles with a playmaking option at wide receiver that had the potential to score a touchdown on any play. Jackson was and still is one of the most feared players in the NFL. The Eagles ultimately decided to part ways with the Pro Bowl wide receiver and are now faced with a tough decision. Do they stick with Jeremy Maclin...

Cary Williams: ‘I’ll be wiser with what I have to say’

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Cary Williams plans to think before he speaks. “Last year I just had a lot of things going on, and some things were misinterpreted or whatever. But I’ve moved on. I’m done with that. It’s a new year. It’s a bright opportunity for us and this organization. I look forward to that,” Williams told CSNPhilliy.com. “I don’t think I’m going...

Power Rankings: Philadelphia Eagles defense near bottom of the NFL

The old adage is that “defense wins championships.” As discussed last week, that cliché seems more and more like a vestige of the past with each passing season, as the NFL becomes more and more focused on offense ahead of defense. But that’s not to say stopping the opponent isn’t important. After all, some of the best offenses in NFL history weren’t able to lead their...

From the horse's mouth: Chip Kelly says Jackson release was all about football

We already heard what the NFL and it's player's union made of their investigation into the reason for receiver DeSean Jackson's sudden release, now we're hearing pretty much the exact same thing from Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly. The release was based on "puerly football reasons," Kelly says. He was adamant that cutting Jackson had nothing...

Nick Foles Plays Waiting Game

Nick Foles was the best deep passer in the NFL in 2013 and not surprisingly, the Eagles quarterback held the ball the second longest in the league. Foles completed 25 of 55 deep passes for 803 yards and 14 TDs with 1 interception.  Those are incredible numbers for a seasoned veteran, let alone a second year player. The big question is how effective will the Eagles passing game be...

Eagles GM doesn’t rule out drafting Johnny Manziel

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was a on Philly’s WIP-FM and didn’t rule out the possibility of drafting Johnny Manziel. “We’re going to stick to our board on (possibly drafting Manziel),” Roseman told Philadelphia’s WIP-FM on Wednesday. “I think that for us, it all depends on the grade. I think that when Coach (Chip Kelly) was talking about (Manziel...

Chip Kelly says he never had a problem with DeSean Jackson

Everyone has been criticizing DeSean Jackson quite a bit since  a report came from nj.com.  Well today Chip Kelly touched base about the DeSean Jackson situation.  CSNPhilly.com had quite a good conversation with the Eagles head coach. “It has nothing to do with anything that was ever written in a newspaper article or any off-field […] The post Chip Kelly says he never had...

Eagles GM Howie Roseman Won’t Rule Out Drafting Johnny Manziel

The Eagles are trying to pull of the ultimate smokescreen. Eagles GM Howie Roseman told Philadelphia’s WIP-FM on Wednesday that the team won’t rule out selecting Manziel if he’s on the board at 22 when the Eagles pick. “We’re going to stick to our board on (possibly drafting Manziel),” Roseman told Philadelphia’s WIP-FM on Wednesday. “I think that for us, it all...

Chip Kelly and the arrogance issue surround the Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach

When I drove to lunch on Wednesday, I tuned in to 97.5 The Fanatic. While I have a rather cynical view of sports talk radio after studying broadcast journalism for four years (and, full disclosure, I interned for a summer at 97.5), I do still have a curiosity that causes me to tune in. I was still feeling upbeat after the Philadelphia Flyers won Game 6 in their series against the...

Chip Kelly on Johnny Manziel: “I love the kid”

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has been trying to get Johnny Manziel on his roster for years.  Kelly is enamored with the former Heisman Trophy winner and that has led to some speculation that Kelly would try to draft Manziel. Kelly said that when he was recruiting Manziel to Oregon, he believed Manziel was the perfect player to run his offense. Kelly says he was actually...

Philadelphia Eagles work out former WR turned OLB

According to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post, the Philadelphia Eagles are among a handful of teams to have recently worked out former Texas A&M OLB Nate Askew. Askew is an interesting prospect because prior to the 2013 season, he played wide receiver for the Aggies. He’s an athletic freak when talking about the outside linebacker position, as he runs a 4.46 40-yard...

Chip Kelly: Releasing DeSean Jackson Was ‘Purely A Football Decision’

When the Philadelphia Eagles released DeSean Jackson on March 28, rumors and reports that the move was triggered by Jackson’s alleged gang ties started flying in. The Eagles did their best to quiet those rumors on Monday. Speaking publicly for the first time since Jackson’s release, Eagles head coach Chip Kelly insisted to reporters that the team’s choice to release the...
