A rumor surfaced yesterday that the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans were in discussions regarding a possible trade for RB Ben Tate. The Cleveland Browns are in need of a running back now that Peyton Hillis has departed via free agency and given the injury history of RB Montario Hardesty. The move would make sense for the Cleveland Browns but I feel that this would be a very foolish move for the Houston Texans. In recent seasons, being a running back for the Houston Texans has been a dangerous occupation, starting with Steve Slaton. The Texans have suffered injuries in repeated seasons at the running back position. What could be the possible motivation for the Texans to move Tate? He has proven himself to be more than adaquate as Arian Foster’s backup and would be a starter for most other teams. Tate is under contract with Houston until the 2014 season and he will be playing for a ridiculously cap friendly number, $490,000.00 dollars. Tate appeared in 15 games last s...

NFL Trade Rumor: Browns seeking Houston’s RB Ben Tate

Business might have just picked up in Berea. After being relatively quiet all day, Twitter has burst with reports that the Browns are engaging the Texans to get Ben Tate. While there isn’t a lot of activity around this rumor just yet, it fits perfectly with Tom Heckert and the Browns’ M.O. From Auburn, Ben Tate is 23. He is 5’11″ tall and 219 pounds. Most importantly he...

Williams praises Kubiak, Texans experience

Mario Williams was honest in his summarization of his Texans experience and beyond simply complimentary in his praise for Gary Kubiak as a coach and a person. Williams also sounded relieved that the whole free agent experience is over. "It was a great run," Williams said Thursday evening from his home in North Carolina upon returning from signing his deal with the Bills...

Matt Leinart Not Giving Up Dream Of Holding Clipboard In NFL

Maybe you missed the news this week that Matt Leinart was released from the Houston Texans, making him a free agent with a career 8-10 record. If this really is the end of the road he walks away with $23,260,000 in career earnings. Makes us wonder why he’d waste time in March throwing with Carson Palmer and Matt Barkley while there are cold beverages waiting at the bar. Why bother...

The Trials and Tribulations of Free Agency for the Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are quickly finding out how easy it is to go from the hunter to the hunted. In a move that surprised no one that pays attention to a little thing called the salary cap, they have lost star defensive end/outside linebacker Mario Williams to the Buffalo Bills in free agency. A rumored six year deal costing $100 million with half of it guaranteed....

Credit the Bills for being aggressive when it came to signing Mario Williams

Houston Texans defensive end Mario Williams (90) tries to get around San Diego Chargers tight end Randy McMichael (81) in the first half at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas on November 7, 2010. The Chargers defeated the Texans 29-23. UPI/Aaron M. Sprecher When I asked one former NFL VP of Player Personnel about whether or not he thought Mario Williams would wind up in Buffalo...

Bills Ink Mario Williams

Star defensive end Mario Williams will be taking his services to Buffalo next year to play for the Bills. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Williams has signed a 6-year deal with the Bills worth up to 100 Million, with 50 Million guaranteed. Before being hampered by injuries last year, Williams was one of the best DE’s in the league. The former first pick in the 2006 draft has...

Houston Texans 2012 Mock Draft: A Full 7-Round Look

Last year we all learned that the Houston Texans were a much better team by design than perhaps some anticipated or even believed. But despite being that well-oiled machine that was a stone’s throw away from the 2011 AFC Conference, a few small issues did stand in the way of their magical advancement; issues that will be addressed in the 2012 NFL Draft. The two major focal points...
