As if Mechelle McNair hasn’t suffered enough, the widow of slain QB Steve McNair is battling the courts to unfreeze the bulk of his assets. McNair played 13 seasons in the NFL, 11 with the Tennessee Titans and two with the Baltimore Ravens, died without a will. A judge in Nashville ruled that Mechelle would oversee the estate, but after his death his assets (valued at $19.6 million) were frozen, which isn’t uncommon by the state.
McNair was murdered in July 2009, along with Sahel Kazemi. He was shot twice in the body and once in the head. Kazemi had a single gunshot to the head. The murder was ruled a murder/suicide and Kazemi was the perpetrator. McNair was 36 years old.
Mechelle McNair recently won a request to get $2.5 million from the estate. Normally the surviving spouse and children inherit the estate, so I’m not sure what’s the hold up in this case.
