The Jets held their first-round pick Muhammad Wilkerson out of drills on Tuesday with an injured hip.
Jets first-round pick Muhammad Wilkerson injured his hip yesterday and sat out the team portion of practice. A Jets spokesman said the defensive end could have returned to the field but was held out for precautionary reasons. It was not clear which hip he injured.
Wilkerson, the No. 30 pick overall out of Temple, has had a strong start to training camp. So much so that Jets coach Rex Ryan said Wilkerson will be a starter. The Jets will not practice today, so Wilkerson will have an extra day to heal. The team’s first preseason game is Monday in Houston.
