After the Steelers Vikings loss that made this team 0-4, Coach Tomlin was aggressive in his promise that he would change the lineup to bring in better players or at least turn guys away who were not winning. Well so far, that is true. Bringing in Levi Brown from the Cardinals to replace Mike Adams at left tackle is definitely an attempt at an upgrade. How much of an upgrade is yet to be seen. The point here is that the Tomlin delivered immediately on a threat he made. Which is out of step for him. But as Ed Bouchette reports, it's not clear whether these "promises" will carry out to more of the same behavior in the lineup. A brief examination of Tomlin's "threats" to the media and their execution shows a pattern of disappointment. In late 2009, after losing 3 games in a row in November and falling to 6-5, Coach said the team would "unleash hell" in the following games against Oakland and Cleveland which, as we know too well, th...

Cardinals seem too willing to heap all the blame on Brown

The Better It Sounds, The Worse It Feels

By Matthew Marczi The better it sounds, the less optimistic I am that this deal will make much of a difference. When it was reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers traded with the Arizona Cardinals for the services of left tackle Levi Brown, I was not entirely sure what to think. Was this a move to acquire a new left tackle? Was Mike Adams doing such a poor job that the team felt he...

Steelers simply not good enough in 2013

The Steelers are taking the week off and one has to wonder if it can get any worse for the mighty Black and Gold. The bad-dream season that was last year has turned into a year-long nightmare as the Steelers have gone 7-14 in the last calendar year, counting pre-season games. If you only look at the last 16 regular season games, or one season’s worth, they are 6-10. In my humble...

Pittsburgh Steelers 2012 Draft is Hurting Them in 2013

The Pittsburgh Steelers have seen enough of Mike Adams for now. That doesn’t say much for their player evaluation leading up to the 2012 NFL draft. Amid the desperation caused by their 0-4 start, the Steelers took the desperate measure of trading a conditional draft pick to the Arizona Cardinals for offensive tackle Levi Brown, who isn’t much better than Adams. Ben Roethlisberger...

At What Point Do the Steelers Go From “Re-Load” to “Re-Build?”

For many years in Pittsburgh using the term “re-build” was a bad word. Like top college programs who never are out of the national title picture, the Steelers were never out of a chance to reach the Super Bowl. While many still believe this is a re-load project, the time has come to strongly consider the dirty word. At 0-4, the Steelers are alive only because the rest of the...

Kelvin Beachum Still The Next Man Up At Left Tackle?

Now that all of the contract numbers are in for new Pittsburgh Steelers tackle Levi Brown following the Wednesday trade, it wouldn't be a shocking to see Kelvin Beachum make his first start at left tackle a week from Sunday against the New York Jets.
