When Peyton Manning signed with the Denver Broncos giving them a much needed upgrade in the passing department over Tim Tebow, the expectations immediately increased for Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker. Going from a 50/50 guy to one of the game’s all-time greats will do that. Now in his third season, will Thomas realize his potential and join the ranks of third-year receiver breakouts?
.
Thomas definitely showed potential last year. Most notably during the Broncos’ playoff run when he torched the Steelers for 204 yards on four catches, including the 80-yard game-winner. He was also the lone bright spot during the Broncos’ 45-10 thrashing at the hands of the Patriots with six catches for 91 yards. It was the second time he exploited the Patriots’ secondary as he went for seven catches for 116 yards in their first meeting.
.
Thomas also lit up the Vikings’ porous secondary with four catches for 144 yards an a pair of scores. His other decent game was a four-catch, 76 yard effort against the Bills.
.
Unfortunately mixed in with those solid performances were several sub-par ones. Given the level of quarterback play and the run-first approach the Broncos took last year, that should not come as a surprise.
.
I don’t expect Denver to suddenly turn into the Packers or Saints with Peyton’s arrival, but I do expect a more balanced attack. Thomas should be more trustworthy on a weekly basis.
.
According to MockDraftCentral, Thomas is slotting out as a WR2 in 12-team leagues. He is the 22nd receiver taken off the board. Meanwhile Eric Decker is number 34, which makes him a  WR3. My gut says that Decker will be more consistent while Thomas will have more monster games.
.
All of this will depend on him staying healthy. Thomas has missed 11 games, five last year, in two seasons. Not to mention, Peyton Manning returning to the iron man that he was prior to last year.

Thank you Mr. Obvious: Peyton Manning says "my arm isn’t the same as when I was 22"

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning was a guest on Jim Rome's show today acknowledging that his arm is not quite the same as it was when he was 22. “I still have strength to recover, still have work to do,” Manning said. “I am 36 years old. My arm has a lot of yards and a lot of touchdowns on it, so it’s probably not going to be the same as it was when it was 22...

Broncos WR Eric Decker says some players miss Tebow

Denver Broncos wide receiver Eric Decker says some of the guys miss Tim Tebow. According to NFL.com, Decker told "NFL AM" that Tebow's presence in the locker room is missed.   “A bunch of guys do miss him because there was so much respect for a guy like him,” Decker said Tuesday morning on NFL Network. “He’s just a good guy, he worked harder than anybody I’ve...

Denver Broncos: Peyton Manning Not Quite Ready

After a substantial 31-3 win over the Chicago Bears, the Denver Broncos are feeling pretty good about their team at this moment. All of this being said, everyone who has praised the Broncos and the efforts of No. 18 at the helm, are forgetting that the savior that is Peyton Manning only played in one series during the contest. A total of 12 plays versus the Bears is hardly anything...

(AP Photo/Michael Conroy) We got our first look—albeit brief—at Peyton Manning in orange (white) and blue last week when the veteran quarterback played one series in Denver’s preseason opener against Chicago.  On Saturday, we’ll get a larger sampling size to disect. Coach John Fox noted earlier in the week that the starters will play into the second quarter against the...

September victories critical for Denver Broncos 2012 success

Denver, CO. How good, and pleasantly strange, was it to see Peyton Manning taking snaps in live action last Thursday night? For all Denver Broncos fans, it finally had to really sink in that signing Peyton was not a dream. Although he didn’t look perfect, he did look very close to his old self, slingin darts like he has so many times in the past. This year has so many expectations...

It seemed to instantly vault the Broncos into contender status, and the AFC West got quite a bit stronger...

Peyton Manning: Bad for the Broncos

When I wed my beautiful bride nearly a decade ago, I married into her rabid fanaticism for the Denver Broncos. I have adopted the team as my own. But never in our eight year marriage have both of us been so unexcited about an upcoming season at Mile High Stadium. Peyton Manning is just not our guy. I know he had a stellar career with the Indianapolis Colts, a Super Bowl champion...

Peyton Knows He'll Never Be The Same

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning told Jim Rome on Rome "My arm has a lot of yards and a lot of touchdowns on it, so it's probably not going to be the same as it was when it was 22, but I still think it can complete some passes."Fantasy Spin:Manning looked a little rusty, but healthy in the Broncos first preseason game. If he and the receiving corps get on the same...

Denver Broncos News One writer puts together a seething fake letter from John Elway to Denver Broncos fans regarding Tim Tebow.  Much of it rings true, but the fading Tebowmaniac in me would have responded with, “Yeah, but he wins.  He took a team that lost 20+ games in two seasons and went deep into the playoffs.”  2011 is a season I’ll cherish forever. [New York Times...
