The San Francisco 49ers are on the verge of making their sixth trip to the Super Bowl and there is one aspect of the 49ers that could be the team’s downfall and that is the play calling on offense. It is the reason why Frank Gore struggled to get going the first three games of the season when he carried the ball 59 times for 148 yards, 2.51 yards per carry average, and a long of 16 and scored one rushing touchdown. As Gore became the focal point of opposing defenses to stop it also meant that Smith wasn’t able to get going throwing the football and for the 49ers the team was put in third and long situations more times than not, which resulted in additional pressure on Smith, yet even with the pressure, he...

49ers QB Alex Smith blames the offense for today's loss to the Giants in the NFC Championship: “We were awful on third down. We got ourselves in a lot of third-and-longs and then when we were in third-and-manageable, we didn’t covert. Too many three-and-outs, didn’t help out the defense enough. Convert those third downs, you give yourself more plays, more chances.” Smith...

NFL Conference Championship Review

A fairly good Baltimore defensive effort was wasted by a terrible field goal try. I'm a former high school kicker (keep that on the down low though will you....chicks never dig the kicker) and I could not believe how bad he hooked that thing. Everything was set up for a Raven win. They kept the Pats under 24 points, forced Brady and others into turnovers and still.....it was...

From Jon Wagner…… With the possibility of heavy rains forecast for Sunday’s NFC championship game in San Francisco, the prevailing assumption is that the run-first San Francisco 49ers would have a distinct advantage over the pass-first New York Giants. However, looking deeper, that might not necessarily be the case. As of late Friday morning, it seems that mother nature...
