I understand the reasoning behind wanting to become a more quick-strike, high-powered offense but the Atlanta Falcons may be missing the big picture. When you look at the success of teams that run these high-scoring passing offenses like the New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts (when Peyton Manning is there of course) then you want to mimic what they’re doing but Atlanta needs to reinvest in their running game instead. The numbers don’t lie. When Michael Turner either scores multiple touchdowns or rushes for over 100 yards and scores a touchdown, the Falcons rarely lose. Despite Atlanta’s attempts to shift to a big-play passing offense those numbers have held true so far this season. Turner has rushed for 100 yards or better in three games this season and the Falcons won two of those. The one they didn’t win? He didn’t score in that game. And the three games where he didn’t run for 100 yards? They won only one of those and in that game Turner scored twice.
