Will the Steelers draft another Pitt player in 2023?

The Steelers selected QB Kenny Pickett from the University of Pittsburgh with their first pick in the 2022 draft. Will history repeat itself in the 2023 NFL Draft?

General manager Omar Khan isn't shutting the door on any scenario.

"It's a strong Pitt class," Khan told reporters at the NFL Combine. "Love those guys being next door. There's a handful of guys there who will be Sunday contributors."

Pittsburgh does have an upper hand on the other 31 NFL teams as it shares a facility with the university, and it may be the very reason Pickett was able to fall to the Steelers at No. 20 a year ago.

Khan was asked if he had spoken with Pickett about any of his former Pitt teammates and he responded, "I'm not going to say we haven't picked his brain."

There have been a number of names already thrown around for when Pittsburgh first picks at No. 17, but two former Pitt players could be viable options.

The fan favorite seems to be USC WR Jordan Addison. Pickett and Addison connected 100 times for 1,593 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2021 before Addison transferred out west for the 2022 season. The 21-year-old is the No. 17 ranked prospect on Pro Football Focus' big board and it says he has "one of the higher floors among receivers in the draft class."

However, receiver may not be on the top of the list of needs for the Steelers this offseason.

The other player is Pitt DT Calijah Kancey. Kancey is the No. 14 ranked prospect on PFF's big board after posting back-to-back seven sack seasons, and PFF says there's "little doubt he's going to impact QBs at the next level."

Pittsburgh does have a need on the interior of its aging defensive line and Kancey could be an instant plug and play.

The Steelers can't really go wrong if they decide to draft either player, but only time will tell how night one will play out.
