New England and frankly all of the country was buzzing over the Patriots signing Tim Tebow this past week. Some Pats fans were tweeting in agony thinking that Tebow was going to take snaps from Tom Brady. Drew Bledsoe has more of a shot playing QB by coming out of retirement for the Pats under Bill Belichick. Belichick is a brilliant strategist when it comes to bringing out the best in each player. Tebow is built like a tight end. Even though Tim was constantly saying that he would play only as a quarterback, I am guessing he will be a “yes man” to Belichick and do whatever the team asks of him. I think Tebow would fill in nicely for Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. The Gronk is scheduled to undergo back surgery on Tuesday in Los Angeles, according to sources. So while Rob is out on the injured list Tebow can complement Aaron Hernandez to keep with New England’s two tight end scheme. One source is reporting that Gronkowski’s time off the field will depend on what else doctors may find when performing the procedure. Plus how long will it take Gronkowski to be ready to play at full strength? The expected time for recovery for this surgery is 12 weeks. Gronkowski’s time table to return is in question and the Pats need to look at other options. When the Patriots open up training camp in late July they are not expecting Gronkowski to be there. Gronkowski’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told Miami radio station WQAM last month that the back surgery was “preventative-maintenance.” Whatever the reason that Gronk is going for another surgery still leaves a void for New England’s offense. If Tebow is slotted to play tight end he could add some diversity to the offensive play calling for the Pats.  There could be some trick plays where he runs or passes the ball. That is the Tebow effect. It makes the opposing defense second guess themselves. With a quarterback like Tom Brady when a defense takes the time to second guess themselves it usually means a six point for New England. Pats fans are somewhat suspect on the addition of Tebow, but I am all for this move. New England is an intelligent team and doesn’t sign players to sell tickets. Their play on the field alone attracts fans to fill up the stadium. The question now is will Tebow’s jersey be the hottest one in New England.
