We've received several emails this week concerning the Bears' apparent lack of faith in linebacker Jamar Williams. Well
apparently Lovie Smith does believe Williams can contribute on defense, because the team's official website reports Williams will see some time at strong-side linebacker Sunday.
Nick Roach is slated to start, so it's unclear exactly how much time Williams is going to get. A team source tells us Williams is still penciled in on all four phases of special teams, while Roach's workload has been scaled back to two. That reduction in special teams responsibilities leads us to believe Roach is expected to receive substantially more playing time.
No doubt Williams feels somewhat slighted after being passed up by both Roach and Hunter Hillenmeyer after the injuries to Brian Urlacher and Pisa Tinoisamoa. This is a contract year for Williams (pending a new collective bargaining agreement), so it might be now or never for him.
