I don’t tweet, so I did see any of this going down last night. But thanks to Lance McAlister’s blog, those of us who do not follow Willie Anderson on Twitter can get a peak into the locker room to see a major cause for the “locker room problems” that have plagued the Bengals for years.

Context: Willie decided to respond to hearing Steve Young say that the Bengals haven’t had a strong locker room since Munoz. I’d love to plagiarize the entire thing, but here are some of the money quotes.

Man that pisses me off! Not at Steve but at people who wouldn’t let the leaders on a lot of Bengals teams lead!

A lot of time leaders on those teams were told to stand down and down get on certain players becuz it would mess up Chemistry!

And in reality they only allowed those teams to be DESTROYED!

I don’t know why no former players have said anything like this before. Maybe there is some unwritten rule that Willie broke last night. But God bless you for saying it, Willie.

Who the “certain players” are is great speculation but ultimately inconsequential. When “certain players” know they are untouchable, the end result is always going to be problems. Always. I touched on this in my post on Monday.

This is pure speculation on my part, but this has Mike Brown’s fingerprints all over it. It’s been going on too long to be Marvin. And thinking back to his earlier days, Marvin does not seem the type to coddle players and play favorites. But Mike seems exactly the type to do so.

This is a huge, serious problem that Willie has highlighted. There is no band-aid for it. Draft picks won’t fix it. Free agents won’t fix it. A new head coach won’t fix it, at least not under the current power structure. Only distancing Mike Brown from control of the team will fix it, whether by Katie or the Grim Reaper. And if Katie continues this practice, winning will be the exception rather than the rule as far as the eye can see.
