Kellen Winslow's physical with the Patriots a couple of weeks ago appears to be much more than a formality. New England could be on the verge of adding the free-agent tight end now that Aaron Hernandez is sidelined.
ESPN.com reports that Winslow has inked a one-year deal with the Patriots. Other reports have surfaced stating that a deal is not done yet, but that the Patriots are expected to sign the veteran.
Winslow worked out with the Patriots a couple of weeks ago, and there were conflicting reports about whether or not he passed his physical due to knee issues. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Winslow did pass his physical, though, which could ultimately pave the way for him to join Bill Belichick's bunch now that Hernandez is expected to be out for at least a few weeks.
Winslow was cut by the Seahawks earlier this offseason after being traded to Seattle by Tampa Bay. The 29-year-old had 75 catches for 763 yards and two touchdowns with the Buccaneers last season.
BEST OF MAXIM
The New England Patriots had a very busy Tuesday when it came to roster moves, one of which included signing seven year veteran and former pro-bowler Kellen Winslow Jr. Winslow, the sixth overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, has played for the Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Seattle Seahawks, although he never [...]
With the injury to TE Aaron Hernandez, the New England Patriots have signed former Pro Bowl TE Kellen Winslow Jr. to a one-year contract.
Winslow, who at one time, was considered one of the best tight ends in the game prior to suffering some injuries, including a knee injury, that derailed a potentially great career.
Originally drafted by the Cleveland Browns out of the University...
The New England Patriots have released tight end Kellen Winslow after just one game.
The veteran of eight full seasons was cut on Thursday after catching one pass for 12 yards in last Sunday night's 31-30 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Patriots signed him after tight end Aaron Hernandez suffered a right ankle injury the previous week. Hernandez missed that game and did not...

The New England Patriots have signed tight end Kellen Winslow and re-signed wide receiver Deion Branch.
The announcement Wednesday came three days after tight end Aaron Hernandez was sidelined with a right ankle injury. The Patriots have not said how many games they expect him to miss.
Winslow was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 1 after spending the past three seasons...
Just as I figured, the Patriots have added some insurance in the wake of Aaron Hernandez’s ankle injury.
(Don’t worry, that pat on the back was merely figurative.)
ESPNBoston.com reported Tuesday that the Pats agreed to terms with tight end Kellen Winslow on a one-year contract. The deal is pending a physical, which is no slam dunk considering the 29-year-old has been chronically...
The New England Patriots signed tight end Kellen Winslow, wide receiver Deion Branch and linebacker Niko Koutouvides.
Branch, 33, caught 51 passes for 702 yards and five touchdowns last season.
For his career, Branch has 502 catches for 6,499 yards and 39 touchdowns.
The Patriots were busy on Tuesday following their 20-18 loss to Arizona on Sunday. They resigned veteran wide receiver Deion Branch as well as linebacker/special teams extraordinaire Nick Koutouvides. They also signed tight end Kellen Winslow, a move that makes all the sense in the world after Aaron Hernandez has been ruled out for 4-6 weeks.
Branch has been one of Tom Brady’s...
Wide receiver Deion Branch is back with the New England Patriots.
Branch signed with the Patriots on Tuesday, rejoining the team that cut him three weeks ago, according to the NFL.com.
Branch should have no trouble fitting back into the Patriots offense after playing six of his 11 NFL seasons with the team. Branch and Tom Brady hooked up on 51 receptions for 702 yards and five...
I should have known it could be one of those days when earlier it was announced that the New England Patriots had signed free agent TE Kellen Winslow.
Bill Belichick wasn’t done with Winslow as he brought back WR Deion Branch for a third go around with the team and released WR Greg Salas, LB Mike Rivera and RB Lex Hilliard leaving 1 more roster spot open.
Hilliard, a 6th round...
