Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid now runs the show in town. A lot of good can come of that, even if the fans don't think so.

I couldn’t tell you if there was a power struggle that led to the Philadelphia Eagles President Joe Banner stepping down. Some say there was, some deny it vehemently. I’m not sure in the end that it really matters. The only thing that does matter is what is left in the wake of this organizational shake up.

In this case, it’s more like WHO is left. Howie Roseman and Andy Reid are the who that’s left.

Howie Roseman has done an excellent job with this offseason, but I’m not sure how much of it is to do with Roseman, or Reid’s insistence that certain things get taken care of. Nonetheless, everyone seems to agree that Roseman has negotiated fair contracts without creating dissension in the ranks, as Joe Banner was infamous for.

Obviously the big question going forward will be how this affects Andy Reid’s tenure as head coach. Some say that having more power puts more pressure on Reid and firmly places him as the next in line to be blamed for any failures. Others say this just firmly entrenches the coach as the man in charge of the organization.

As a matter of record, I agree with the latter assessment. If the Eagles get off to a 2-0 or 3-0 start, don’t be surprised if Andy Reid gets another contract extension. I won’t be.

More than anything, though, Banner’s stepping down allows the Eagles to rehab their image with the fans. We have already seen a much more reachable and accommodating coach with the press. I also think that it allows Andy Reid to do things his way entirely.

And for those of you who have grown tired of Reid, that may not be a bad thing. His on the field decisions have been questioned for a long time, but his relationship with his players may be what makes Reid so valuable. Throughout all of the turmoil with Reid over the past several years, his players have ALWAYS stood by his side. They love the guy, and that makes them play harder for him.

Reid in turn, tries to keep his players happy. Often that equates to paid. With more input into the process and a GM in Roseman who seems to also want to do what’s best, there is a chance for a much more harmonious working relationship between the front office and its players. That is never a bad thing. Harmony equates to happiness, and that can do nothing but help the Eagles on their quest to bring this city a Super Bowl.

Andy Reid may have deficiencies. All people do. We’ve just been subjected to them for much longer than most would be. That makes them grate on us a little more. Familiarity, after all, does breed contempt and most coaches don’t last for 14 years in one spot.

I, for one, am willing to be open-minded about how this all plays out. We’ve done it the other way for 18 years and have not won a Super Bowl. Let’s give Andy this one final shot at doing it his way completely and see how it goes. If this is the Andy Reid show now, let’s see how the coach authors this latest episode. If nothing else, it may be one of the most entertaining and exciting seasons we’ve seen in Eagles football in years.

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick went off on a Philly radio show about the NFL Network's Top 100 player ranking list, on which he was named the 70th best player.

Mike Vick unimpressed by the opinions of his peers

Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Mike Vick was recently asked about the NFL’s 2012 Top 100 list, a yearly ranking of the 100 best players in the league as picked by the players in the NFL. This season, Vick landed at a surprisingly low 70th spot, falling squarely between 49ers corner Carlos Rogers, and Vick’s big play [...]

Michael Vick says this is the “most complete” team he’s been on

Philadelphia Eagles: Time to Say Goodbye to Joe Banner

Handout/Getty Images The news came bright and early Thursday morning that Joe Banner’s time with the Philadelphia Eagles had come to an end.  I saw the news from Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer via twitter about 90 seconds after I opened my eyes that day. On a normal day I may have sprinted to my computer to write my thoughts about it, but I was covering the French...

Michael Vick says it’s a ‘joke’ he’s ranked 70th on the NFL’s Top 100 Players list

The NFL Network recently released a portion of its Top 100 Players of 2012 list, and you know what that means — absolutely nothing. The list is merely a topic for fans, analysts and bloggers like us to analyze and interpret. For players, it can serve as either a pat on the back or a motivational tool. After being ranked No. 70 on this year’s list, Michael Vick will be using for...

Demetress Bell will have to compete for Eagles left tackle job

When Jason Peters, one of the top offensive tackles in the league, tore his Achilles in March, the Eagles signed Demetress Bell to replace him at left tackle, paying him 3.25 million to do so. Bell is a talented left tackle when healthy, but has only made it through more than 8 games once in his 4 year career, but in a weak offensive tackle class, he was the best option. However...

Michael Vick calls the NFL’s Top 100 a joke after his ranking

Alas, another player thinking this NFL Top 100 thing is a joke. But, I do have to give them credit, they make these rankings based off of the players that supposedly vote, and make them a list out of it. It’s dumb, but it gets fans and players going on it, thus bringing in more views and discussion. Today on 97.5 the fanatic, Eagles QB Michael Vick sat down and talked with Mike...

Michael Vick Continues to Love Himself, Not NFL Top 100

I’ve tried the past five years to keep my criticism of Michael Vick in check. People constantly get onto me for saying that the guy “made a mistake” and he “paid his debt to society” and that he earned his second chance and I should get on board with that. As a retired breeder and owner of multiple Doberman Pinscher’s, I’m sorry but that was just something I could...
