He did not leave with the fan outrage that came when Brian Dawkins left, but David Akers flying the coop - or being kicked out of it last season has been an underrated story.
Akers is having one of the best seasons of all times for the San Francisco 49ers, and while the Eagles are sitting at home, he is preparing to take on the New Orleans Saints this week in a divisional playoff game.
Would keeping Akers have been the difference between the Eagles playing this weekend and sitting at home? Most likely not. But as Rick Riley points out in his latest column for ESPN, rookie kicker Alex Henery did miss 2 field goals against Akers' 49ers in the Eagles 24-23 loss.
