Yesterday the Baltimore Ravens were able to lock up one of their key defensive players, as Haloti Ngata signed a new five-year $61 Million contract with $40 million guaranteed. Before the lockout, the Ravens were able to give Ngata the Franchise Tag in order to not risk losing him in Free Agency. Under the Franchise Tag, Ngata was scheduled to make $12.5 Million, which limited what the Ravens could do in Free Agency with the new $120 Million Salary Cap. For the Ravens, this is not only a big step forward for the future of the defense, but this also is a big step in getting other potential free agents signed. The Ravens have some big key players who are coming up on the end of their current deal, including Ray Rice & Joe Flacco who will be the future of the Ravens offense. Rice’s rookie contract is up after this season, along with Guard Ben Grubbs who missed last week’s game in Tennessee and is crucial to keeping Joe Flacco up right.
