The NFL released its preseason schedule on Wednesday. And while teams with geographic ties such as the Jets and Giants, the Steelers and Eagles, Chiefs and Rams, to name a few, will be continuing those rivalries as usual, the Raiders and the 49ers will not be continuing their Battle of the Bay.

When the Raiders and Niners met at faulty power outlet Candlestick Park during the last preseason, violence erupted between fans of both teams in the stands during the game and in the parking lot after. Both sects of fans have a pure, bitter dislike for the other. It didn’t even matter it was a mere preseason game.

With the game likely kaput permanently, both teams will only face each other in the scheduled regular season meeting every four years. The next time the two will see each other is set for 2014. Until then, both fan bases will be left marking their victories in the rivalry by the other team’s struggles. Given that the Niners spectacularly mucked up a chance to play in the Super Bowl last season, Raider Nation has bragging rights.
