Nobody likes an angry Schwartz.Since last night’s NFL action was so boring – unless you’re a fan of watching Jay Cutler be the worst QB on the face of the planet, in which case that was pure pornography – I’m hoping for some of the weekend games to pick up the slack a little. That may be a rather lofty goal, though, since a quick look at the NFL schedule told me that the majority of the games will probably suck. Fingers crossed.WWE Smackdown – 8 PM ET on SyFyWill Daniel Bryan incite the crowd to yell, “NO! NO! NO!”? Will Randy Orton flop on the mat and pretend that he’s a snake only to be hit on the head by a hard object in the possession of someone he wasn’t paying attention to? Will Vickie Guerrero sneer and scowl and say something mean about someone? Find out tonight! (See, anyone can do this.)NCAA Football: Washington State at UNLV – 9 PM ET on ESPNThank God they scheduled this one! In a conversation with 49ers beat writers this week, Detroit coach Jim Schwartz gives his takes on the Niners and Lions and other subjects regarding the two teams and Sunday night’s early NFC showdown at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.
With Jim Schwartz and Niners head coach Jim Harbaugh doing their best to downplay Sunday night’s rematch of last year’s Handshake Bowl, San Francisco owner Jed York is doing his best to add fuel to the fire.
During a speech at a pep rally Thursday (because not just high school teams do this anymore), York told Niners fans “…if you shake somebody’s hand at the end of the...
Story lines abound in the 49ers' nationally televised rematch with the Lions on Sunday night at Candlestick Park. First, there's the ongoing relationship, if that's what you can call it, between the two coaches -- the Lions' Jim Schwartz and the 49ers' Jim Harbaugh. The two nearly brawled at the end of a hard-fought game in Detroit last October. The 49ers won...
Some people just can't help themselves. They have to shake things up.
Put San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York in that category.
Although his coach, Jim Harbaugh, and Lions coach Jim Schwartz have downplayed Handshake-gate 2011 this week, York ended a 49ers pep rally Thursday afternoon with a backhanded comment directed at Schwartz.
Watch the video above to see what York had...
The Sunday night football game for week 2 in the NFL features Detroit vs San Francisco. The 49ers made headlines in week one when they went into Green Bay and squashed the Packers. That win pushed this team to the top of the power rankings in the NFL and made the 49ers a super bowl favorite.
The Detroit Lions struggled in week one against the lowly St. Louis Rams. Quarterback...
It's never much of a surprise when NFL players get tangled up or exchange shoves after a play is over, or sometimes even after a game finishes. That's the nature of the sport. What we don't always see, however, is coaches getting into it. We saw that last year, though, when the San Francisco 49ers beat the Detroit Lions. Following the game, Niners head coach Jim Harbaugh...
Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson did not practice on Wednesday because of a foot injury, according to the team.
Head coach Jim Schwartz wouldn't say much on the injury.
The injury doesn't sound serious, according to team reporter Tim Twentyman, who says Megatron appeared to be fine.
"Let's put it this way. I didn't notice anything," he tweeted...
Jim Harbaugh and Jim Schwartz….Handshake Part II could be really interesting!
Meanwhile, Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions were one of the biggest locks to win in the season opener and they very nearly blew their opportunity at home against the St. Louis Rams.
The Rams do not possess a ton of talent offensively, and...

Less than a year after a post-game incident between Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz and San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh sent the media into a frenzy, the two teams are set to face each other again this time in San Francisco.
With the incident fresh in the media’s mind, it is hard to not talk about hand shakes.
At a downtown rally on Wednesday, 49ers owner Jed...
While some of the focus remains on last year's postgame handshake gone wrong, the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions insist that's all but forgotten.
During the rematch, the emerging franchises will instead look forward to another chance to build on their breakthrough campaigns from a year ago.
The Lions will try to end a lengthy skid in San Francisco on Sunday night...
