Twitter/@TimTebow It’s been over a week since Tim Tebow was released by the New York Jets and officially became a free agent, and in that time, no other team in the NFL has shown an interest in the former Florida Gators quarterback. It’s becoming more and more obvious that Tebow’s career in the pros may be a thing of the past. Fans of the Jaguars, the franchise once thought to be the only realistic landing place for the former Heisman-winner, have started a website dedicated to the franchise not signing him. New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is reported to “hate” Tim Tebow’s game. Heck, Warren Moon said Tebow couldn’t even play quarterback in the CFL.  While Tebow may not be looking at the next phase of his career, the media certainly has been. This past week, the NY Daily News ran a story on his potential future on television as an analyst. The article implies that Fox Sports and ESPN would both love to have him on board, citing an obvious increase in ratings. But it makes me wonder; why is Tim Tebow so popular? Yes, he was a great college player. Yes, he in an inspiration (whether you agree or not) to people off the field. Yes, he portrays a squeaky-clean image. But wasn’t the main storyline with Tebow always his ability to “overcome” his physical limitations of throwing the ball with his heart and will to win? That’s what it seemed like to me. How does that translate to being a college football analyst? Why does that mean he’ll do wonders for television ratings? I could see a temporary jump, but I don’t necessarily think it would be sustainable. Maybe I’m missing something, and people really do want to hear from Tebow every day. If so, I’ll gladly admit I’m wrong. I have a feeling we’ll find out sooner rather than later.
