(Eds: APNewsNow. With AP Photos.) By CHRIS JENKINS AP Sports Writer Charles Woodson says he isn't worried, even if the Green Bay Packers' defense didn't look much better Sunday than it did last season.
Woodson says it will take some time for the Packers' new players to make an impact. And the veteran defensive back insists he saw signs of progress in the season-opening 30-22 loss to San Francisco.
The revamped defense gave up 377 net yards of offense to the 49ers, who looked more explosive than they did during last season's run to the NFC championship game. Alex Smith was 20 of 26 for 211 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions, and Frank Gore ran for 112 yards and a touchdown.
Woodson says, ''We're going to get where we need to be. I promise you that.''

GREEN BAY, Wis. Donald Driver stood on the sideline with his helmet on throughout the Packers' Week 1 loss, just waiting to get called onto the field. But as Green Bay's offense went through its first nine drives against the San Francisco 49ers, Driver could only watch and wait.

Packers In Search Of First Win As Bears Visit
The Green Bay Packers explosive offense was muzzled in their season-opener and that’s exactly what the Chicago Bears want to hear. The two division rivals will meet up on Thursday night at Lambeau Field.
People making their NFL picks were surprised to see the Packers score just 22 points their Week 1 loss to San Francisco...
I checked the box score again just to be sure and unless I am missing something it does appear the 49ers scored more points than the Packers.
Once again, if I am wrong let me know.
“We beat ourselves. They really didn’t beat us,” cornerback Jarrett Bush said after the game, via the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “We just have to hunker down and make sure we’re gap...
Vernon Davis’ third quarter touchdown against the Green Bay Packers was nice, but it was overruled by his dunk attempt of the goalpost?Davis did bring some laughter to a Green Bay crowd that didn’t get much of it today, as its teams lost 30-22 to San Francisco.Good job, good effort, Vernon.[Video via Cosby Sweaters]
Monday morning mistakenness continues around the NFL.
First, Brandon Weeden tried to convince us that he wasn’t overwhelmed in his first start against the Eagles. And now, Green Bay Packers cornerback Jarrett Bush is trying to convince us that the San Francisco 49ers didn’t flat out beat the Packers.
But before we get to Bush’s mistakenness, let’s state the facts.
(Eds: APNewsNow. With AP Photos.) By CHRIS JENKINS AP Sports Writer The Green Bay Packers hoped Cedric Benson quickly would add a new dimension to the offense, helping to revive a running game that often has seemed like an afterthought under Mike McCarthy.
In Week 1, Aaron Rodgers was the Packers' leading rusher in a loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Benson had nine carries...
TMZ is reporting that Aaron Rodgers is welching on his bet he made with Boyz II Men. Here is what TMZ reported.
Aaron Rodgers doesn’t seem to understand the way bets work — because even though he LOST a wager to Boyz II Men … he’s now trying to weasel his way out of paying up … by throwing TMZ under the bus.
We broke the story … the Green Bay Packers star agreed to a...

A revamped defense didn't look revamped. A revived running game didn't look revived. And not even Aaron Rodgers could bail out the Green Bay Packers.
Rodgers' attempt at a fourth-quarter rally fell short and the Packers were handed a harsh reality check Sunday, opening the season with a 30-22 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
It was an unsettling start for a team that...
The Packers fell behind 23-7 and, despite a punt return touchdown by Randall Cobb and a James Jones-fueled touchdown series, lost to San Francisco at Lambeau Field.
GREEN BAY, Wisc. -- From a historical perspective, Sunday's Week 1 loss to San Francisco is a bad omen for the Green Bay Packers. Since the NFL went to a 16-game schedule in 1978, 379 of the 490 Kickoff Weekend losers failed to make the playoffs, a rate of 77.3 percent. For Green Bay, it's even more skewed. Of the 16 Packers teams to lose their opening game, only two rebounded...
Starting nickel safety M.D. Jennings struggled in the opener against the 49ers
Anyone surprised that the Packers couldn’t stop quarterback Alex Smith and the 49ers’ offense either doesn’t read this blog or didn’t pay enough attention during the month of August. No team has more holes in its nickel and dime packages than Green Bay, and every one of them was exposed on Sunday...
In the marquee matchup of the day, the San Francisco 49ers came into Lambeau Field and left with a 30-22 win over the Green Bay Packers. The 49ers defense harassed MVP Aaron Rodgers all day long, sacking him three times (a fourth came passed the line of scrimmage), and picked him off once (a second one dropped). The Packers had no ground game at all, and after a season where they...
The first Sunday of the NFL season is in the books. The 49′ers came out with ambitions of a title in their eyes as they faced off against the Green Bay Packers. First touchdown of the game belonged to Randy Moss, making it clear that he still has “IT.” But the hilarity moment of the [...]
