WR is a BIG Need in Pittsburgh   I wonder just how many remember the name Limas Sweed ? I know he is out of the NFL and has been for a number of years after being cut by the Steelers . A second round prospect that had the pundits screaming he was a complete steal being drafted that late , all the physical tools you look for at WR big , strong , fast highly productive at a big program and big game experience ….. I bring this mans name up for a reason and before you think it NO , I do not want to “ bring him in “ but keep him in mind for a moment if you will … The Steelers need help at WR more now than at any point in the modern era , this is a Passing league ( like it or not ) points are scored by the bucketful’s in today’s game and without quality WR play you will find yourself on the short end of the win /loss column more often than not . Looking at the Steelers current roster TODAY , granted the FA period is still in full swing and things could change but we are down 16 TD’s from a year ago from the WR spot currently and nobody has been signed to offset the loss of production a loss of 57% of Big Ben’s TD passes …. That for me is alarming .. Speaking of Big Ben’s production if the 57% of his TD production exiting is not alarming enough lets look at who we currently have on the roster by the numbers we will omit Antonio Brown from this so you get a truer evaluation of what we have beyond him .. In 2013 Big Ben completed 375 passes the guys who are in line to replace the departed members of the 2013 Receiving corps where responsible for 0.021% of those completions in other words just 8 catches ….. Something must be done to shore up this all important position of the team PRIOR to the draft as we can not enter the 2014 season putting all our eggs into the unknown basket , Remember the Limas Sweed bust we spoke of earlier to help further place this into proper perspective Limas had 1 less NFL catch than the entire WR’s corps we have on the current roster ( not including Antonio Brown ) and Limas was shown his walking papers after 2 seasons … If you visit steelers.com and look at the depth chart the same case could be made for many pos on the roster , the cupboards are at their barest I can recall in all my life as a steelers fan and that is several decades dating back to before our first SB win and the coin toss in the Bradshaw sweepstakes . These are desperate times and this draft being the deepest in my lifetime on paper could be just what the Dr. ordered but with just so many picks ( likely 8 with compensatory selections included ) these are the bullets Colbert and Company must not misfire with as we have done so often in the past . They need to have 3-4 targets for each selection point and if several of them are there at their pick point try and trade back a few spots to add value and more selections and still walk away with one of those targets .   Hope you enjoyed the read feel free to comment below and follow me on Twitter @Dwinsgames The post WR a BIG need in Pittsburgh appeared first on TopSportsReport.

  • The Steelers have A Brown, M Wheaton, Derek Moye and Justin Brown plus other potentials. So what is the emergency when you carry 5-6 WR's and only three or four get playing time.
  • I would feel a whole lot better about WR core if we had someone to plug into the number three spot. But I don't think that it is an emergency situation, my emergencies right now are on Defense, DE and CB. I would like to see our draft go TE if Ebron is still there then CB, DL, WR. Or CB, DL, WR, RB. I think that it is easier to find an above average receiver in the summer than all of our other needs. DE we need a space eater who can free up the LB's and DL is deep in the draft. But CB is important in any D fense.
