Mike Wallace’s four-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers may have come to a close as the wide receiver was one of three players the team placed on injured reserve. Offensive tackle Mike Adams and cornerback Curtis Brown also were shut down a day before Sunday’s season finale at home against the Cleveland Browns. Wallace sat out practice this week with a hip injury after catching a season-low one pass for 13 yards in last week’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals that saw the Steelers get eliminated from playoff contention. Wallace, who staged a lengthy holdout before the 2012 season, is scheduled to become a free agent this offseason and finished with a career-low 13.-yard average per catch. The Steelers’ fastest wide receiver, Wallace wasn’t as big of a threat with the offense dialing back the vertical passing game under new offensive coordinator Todd Haley. Adams is a rookie who started six of the 10 games he appeared in before suffering an injured left ankle on Nov. 25. Brown saw action in the first 15 games of this season, recording eight tackles and one pass breakup while also recording a team-high 17 tackles on special teams. Pittsburgh promoted wide receiver David Gilreath and nose tackle Alameda Ta’amu from the practice squad. The Steelers also claimed defensive tackle Hebron Fangupo off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.
