Zach Thomas, 36, has informed the Miami Herald that he has played his last game in the NFL and intends to retire this off-season.

Thomas notes his retirement mainly to the fact that he still suffers from symptoms stemming from his multiple concussions that he suffered throughout his borderline Hall-of-Fame career.

He wants to sing a one-day contract with the Miami Dolphins so that he can retire a Dolphin, the team that he called home for most of his career.

Thomas was a fifth round pick of the Dolphins way back in 1996. He went on to make seven pro-bowls in his 12 year stay in Miami.

He spent one year in Dallas before signing with Kansas City in the 2009 off-season. He was cut before the regular season after not partaking in any of the pre-season games.

Thomas will receive consideration for the Hall-of-Fame. It may not be first ballot, I'm sure of that, but I think he will eventually find his way into Canton.
