The 2011 Colts Special Teams: The Good, Ugly, and Just Plain Awful
We all know that the Colts' special teams was really bad. As in, close-your-eyes-and-hope-the-other-team-doesn't-score bad.
As much potential as I think Joe Lefeged may have as a depth player in the defensive backfield, he made me cringe more consistently than any other player I've seen in the Manning era (during his kick/punt returns). More than Keyunta Dawson, more...
NFL Draft Profile: S Harrison Smith
While the majority of third round draft profile's for the Colts have been wide receivers, for good reason, the Colts have multiple holes on the defense as well. One of the most glaring weaknesses for the 2012 defense is the strong safety position.
While the Colts have a rock at free safety, six-year veteran Antoine Bethea, the only players at strong safety in 2012 were David...
Lefeged has pair of big moments
On a Sunday nearly devoid of Indianapolis Colts highlights, Joe Lefeged provided a pair. The rookie safety returned a second-quarter kickoff 51 yards. It was the Colts' longest since Chad Simpson's 93-yard touchdown return at Jacksonville on Dec. 17, 2009. Lefeged's runback accounted for more yardage than the Colts' kickoff return team had in nine of their 13 games.
Five plays from the Falcons game
I think highly of Ben Savage at Coltzilla who somehow stomachs film review after each week's loss. The most painful play he breaks down is Joe Lefeged vs. Julio Jones. Really? In all fairness, Jones picks apart the scheme by playing the soft spot between Bethea and Kevin Thomas. Still, counting on Lefeged at strong safety to make this tackle shows just how badly the Colts...
Ugly early
Phil Richards points out that the Titans game got off to a bad start and never got better:
Joe Lefeged took the opening kickoff 5 yards deep in the Indianapolis Colts end zone. He made a bad decision: He brought it out, the blocking broke down, Lefeged was hit by Tennessee's Tommie Harris and fumbled. Adrian Moten recovered for the Colts, but teammate Dan Muir was penalized...
