TEAMS: New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, Edmonton Oilers
If we're playing favorites, David Musil is near the top of my list. He was so calm in pre-season that one could easily project him into the future as steady, reliable defender. Lots of PK, tough EV minutes and plenty of grit and toughness. Winter 2011: #10Summer 2011: #8Redline report: His father, Frank, was a longtime NHL defenseman and currently a highly respected scout. David has excellent size and strength and plays a rugged brand of hockey with a bit of a mean streak. He reads developing plays well and uses anticipation to break up plays before they become dangerous. He's got good hockey sense in all three zones, but his offensive upside is limited due to his mediocre point shot.TSN: Highly touted in the Czech Republic for several years, one of the rare players to compete in three U-18 championships. Good genes, being the son of a former NHLer and a tennis pro, and nephew of Bobby Holik. Strengths - Has good gap control and active stick. He can play a physical game giv...

#9 Prospect: Tyler Pitlick
ALL scouting reports rave about Tyler Pitlick’s ability to be a physical factor in games, and many suggest he will indeed play in the NHL as a center (although he’s back on the wing of late). The great unknown–at least the great unproven–is his ability to score goals and contribute to goal scoring.Based on the monthly stats, offense is a moving target for the AHL rookie...
Klefbom Named to 2012 IIHF U20 Team Sweden
Edmonton Oilers’ Swedish prospect Oscar Klefbom has had a less than ideal season so far. In September Klefbom suffered a cut to his thigh and subsequently a leg infection. Most recently, Klefbom suffered a concussion. Recently however, November 24th, Klefbom was able to return to his Swedish Elite Team (SEL) Färjestad BK. Should Klefbom remain healthy for the next month, we will...
Memory Lane Monday: Anson Carter
For anyone that can’t remember Anson Carter, shame on you. How can you not recognize a black man on a hockey team (no racism intended, it’s just a fact). It’s like identifying Scal on a basketball team. They both stick out so blatantly to anybody watching on TV or at the game. Okay, now that I’m finished with my rant, I can finally talk about Carter’s NHL career.
Carter...
Edmonton Oilers Weigh in on Potential Realignment
Change can be difficult for anyone and everyone, especially where money is involved. And the NHL is big money.
The NHL Board of Governors met yesterday to discuss potential realignment scenarios to reflect the move of the Atlanta Thrashers to Winnipeg and the possible relocation of the Phoenix Coyotes. Although the NHL is still committed to making the Phoenix Coyotes work, they...
Richard Cloutier: Oilers and 'Canes Set to Break Wind Tonight
Add me on Twitter if you haven't already: @rdcloutier
Hey, so here's a bunch of reasons to watch the Oilers/Hurricanes game tonight:
Superkids
The Oilers have Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and the 'Canes have last-season's Nuge, Jeff Skinner. I'd also be promoting Taylor Hall in tonight's game, but it looks like he'll continue to be out. Hall wants to be...
Klefbom Named to Team Sweden
There was a time when Oiler fans could see the club's very best teenagers at the World Junior Championships. This year the best U20 plays at Rexall with the big club, but there are a few gems still available for the WJ's. Oscar Klefbom is the headliner.I got the news from Guy Flaming over at Coming Down the Pipe yesterday afternoon. As you know, Oscar Klefbom has been struggling...
Game 30 Preview: Hurricanes at Oilers
Carolina Hurricanes (8-17-4) at Edmonton Oilers (13-11-3)Rexall Place 9:30 p.m. ESTTV: FS-Carolinas, TSN
There is a good chance that Carolina goes down a similar path to these Oilers that we're facing tonight. They have lost seven in a row, have already replaced their head coach, have some promising youth in the system and are on track for a top-five pick. The Oilers now have...
G28 Hurricanes at Oilers
I have tried in these years to hate Carolina, but it's hard to find bad things about a place where Nina Simone was born. I have tried to despise that Hurricane team, but Doug Weight was on that team so it isn't a universal hatred. I've tried to hate Jimmy Rutherford, but the man played for so many bad teams it doesn't seem fair to be angry at him for climbing Mount...
Hurricanes-Oilers Preview
Despite their recent struggles, the Edmonton Oilers can still salvage a respectable record on their longest homestand of the season.
Some rest combined with a visit from the last-place Carolina Hurricanes should provide them a good opportunity to begin doing that.
The Oilers go for just their second win in six games Wednesday night in their only meeting of the season with the Hurricanes...

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have assigned centre Ryan O'Marra to the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.
O'Marra, 24, has played 20 games this season with the Barons recording eight point...
