To make matters worse, superstar winger Dany Heatley demanded a trade in June, citing difference with head coach Cory Clouston as the reason for the request. Ottawa eventually accommodated Heatley, sending him to the San Jose Sharks in a deal that also saw forwards Jonathan Cheechoo and Milan Michalek head to Ottawa.
