Sheldon Souray will score more goals than Mike Green
Green scored 31 goals last year in 68 games. That’s unreal. Souray only scored 23 (in 81 games). However, with Pat Quinn now in Edmonton, he will lean on Souray's booming shot from the point on the powerplay. Souray has one of the hardest shots in the league and Edmonton has the personnel to get him open.
The St. Louis Blues will win the Central Division
Detroit is getting older. Chicago is already exhausted from all the adversity they have dealt with. Columbus not quite there yet. Nashville is even further from there. The Blues have a perfect mix of young and old—and they are all skilled. They could possibly have the most depth in the league. They have nine forwards who all meshed at the right time last year to squeak into the playoffs. They will carry that momentum into this year. Trade Watch Day 14 (Or So)
The Edmonton Oilers have too many forwards for two few roster spots and crunch time is coming. The truth is that's not the real problem. The real problem is that the Oilers have procured more minute (read: mine-yute) men than they can use, and players of that type are often waiver material or available for much less than 100 cents on the dollar. The Oilers need a veteran right-handed...
"Some Guys Are Separating Themselves"
I suggest hanging around the Oilers website at least once a day for the next 7 days. Pat Quinn is leaving some "copper and blue clues" all over the place and really gave us some good information today.I'm not certain what he means with regard to "veterans" but whoever they are they're in a bit of trouble. He could be talking about Fernando Pisani and Ethan Moreau, but he could also...
Edmonton Oilers Dynasty: Players Turned Head Coaches
by Adam GretzFiled under: NHL CoachingThe old cliche in sports is that often times the best players turn out to be the worst coaches, and Wayne Gretzky, arguably the greatest hockey player ever, is, perhaps, one of the finest examples. The Great One resigned from his position as head coach of the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday following four unsuccessful seasons behind the bench in...
Flames at Oilers PS, G6/09-10
The Edmonton Oilers are slated to run a mostly-NHL lineup tonight against the Calgary Flames. It's probably safe to say that any at-bats given to bubble boys from here on in means said players are under serious consideration for the final roster. Here are tonight's projected lines and pairings:Horcoff-Jacques-Hemsky: The top line auditions continue, although at this point the smart...
Celebrity Guests: Oilers Blog- Maxbone
The Edmonton Oilers aren't wasting time shortening the Pre-Season bench. After waviers are cleared by certain players, the Oilers roster will be down to 32.
Today the roster was trimmed by eight players:
Sent to Springfield of the AHL - Defensemen Alex Plante, Jake Taylor and Bryan Young, and Winger Ryan O'Marra. Forwards Ryan Potulny and Chris Minard, along...
2009-10 Edmonton Oilers Preview
The Oilers suffered through their second straight fourth-place finish in the Northwest Division last year, leading to the firing of head coach Craig MacTavish in April. The most successful season the team had under MacTavish's leadership was in 2005-06, when the team advanced to the finals for the first time since 1990 as the eighth seed before losing in seven games to Carolina....

Khabibulin Gives Oilers A Comfort Zone
from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail,
And while the Oilers had nothing but good things to say about the man that Khabibulin replaced, team captain Ethan Moreau concurred with the basic premise, suggesting: “Having Khabibulin here allows us to compete with Kiprusoff, Luongo, Backstrom – the elite goalies in our division and conference.
“It’s...
Celebrity Guests: Oilers Blog-Pipeline by Maxbone September 24
Last night, it was deju vu all over again. The Oilers as a team completely mailed in an effort. Welcome back, last season.
I suppose it's a little hard to get motivated to play in the pre-season. The people who needed to show up, Dustin Penner and JF Jacques, both had great games. Jacques in particular was great, scoring once with the puck, and once with his hand by flattening...
