Elias placed on IR to help NJ get down to 23 on the active roster but I would expect him to miss the opener on Thursday
The Devils trimmed their roster to 23 players by the 5pm deadline in a way that no one really expected. Patrik Elias was placed on injured reserve retroactive to last Tuesday and Mattias Tedenby was placed on the non-roster injured reserve which brought the Devils active roster down to 23.
It’s believe that Patrick Elias will be activated off IR on Wednesday for the season opener on Thursday night. Place Elias on IR, who was injured last week in the Philadelphia pre-season game buys the Devils some time to let other teams set their season opening rosters which gives NJ the ability to sneak a player through waivers without the fear of them being picked up. For example, with the Elias and Tedenby moves made, Stephen Gionta and Alex Urbom remain on the team. Had they been placed on waivers in time to cut the roster to 23, you’d have to imagine that so...
BEST OF MAXIM
The Devils placed forward Patrik Elias on injured reserve and designated forward Mattias Tedenby as an injured non-roster player today to get down to the 23-player roster limit by today’s 5 p.m. deadline for the start of the 2013-14 season.
Earlier today the Devils sent right wing Cam Janssen down to Albany of the AHL after he cleared waivers.
Elias’ time on the IR can be back...
According to the Bergen Record’s Tom Gulitti and the Newark Star-ledgers Rich Chere, The New Jersey Devils placed Patrik Elias on the injured reserve list Monday, but there is still a chance he may play in the 2013-2014 opener.
“The injury is gone,” Elias said. “I’ll be fine.” This is what Elias told Chere, that his groin injury won’t stop him from suiting up on Thursday...
Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur’s NHL record run of starting 18 consecutive season openers with the same team could be about to end – and that doesn’t seem to matter to him.
Brodeur said Tuesday he believes he’ll "probably" be ready to start the team’s regular-season opener Thursday night in Pittsburgh but doesn’t know yet if he will.
Originally Martin Brodeur had been tabbed by coach Peter DeBoer to start the season-opener for the New Jersey Devils in Pittsburgh on Friday night. There's been a change of plans and instead Cory Schneider will get the start.
Last week Brodeur's dad Denis died back in his hometown of Montreal and Martin spent a little bit of time in Quebec. As a result DeBoer decided to...
Everyone still on the Devils’ roster and their two “injured” players are on the ice for practice this morning at Prudential Center.
Patrik Elias who was placed on injured reserve Monday after saying his “mystery injury is gone” is practicing for the second day in a row. He is eligible to come off injured reserve on Wednesday so he can still play in Thursday’s regular...

A temporary solution to meet the league required 23-maximum player roster, New Jersey Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello bought himself some extra time by placing Patrik Elias on the Injured Reserve list and Mattias Tedenby on the non-roster Injured Reserves in order to get under the league required 23-maximum player roster Monday evening.
Jaromir Jagr has more than just a guaranteed place in the Hockey Hall of Fame. He is already ranked among the upper echelon of stars who’ve played the game alongside names like Wayne Gretzky Gordie Howe Mario Lemieux Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito.
So why would Jagr 41 risk tarnishing his reputation at this late stage of his career by playing too long? And why would he do it on a...
Thursday will mark the end of an era in Newark.
The Devils announced Wednesday that former Vancouver Canuck Cory Schneider will start in net when the team begins its season against Pittsburgh, marking the first time since 1993 that a goalie not named Martin Brodeur has started a season opener for New Jersey.
Brodeur, who is entering his 21st NHL season, was originally announced as...
Here he takes a Scott Stevens-caliber hit from his own teammate, Alexei Ponikarkovsky. He'll be out for a while.
