The Confluence of the Three Rivers:
With training camp winding down and teams trimming their rosters, the competition is heating up for the final two spots on the Pittsburgh Penguins' regular season roster. The remaining players in contention: Paul Bissonnette, Ryan Bayda, Chris Conner, Nate Guenin, and Deryk Engelland, have all made strong cases.
Bissonnette will bring the toughness to complete a fourth line that also includes Eric Godard and newly-acquired Mike Rupp. Ryan Bayda has the NHL experience and skill, while Chris Conner brings pure speed into the equation. On defense, Nate Guenin will attempt to make his hometown team. Guenin grew up in Sewickley, PA and has played the last few years in the Flyers organization, never really getting a shot at the NHL despite minor league success. Engelland, on the other hand, is taking the toughness route. He fought a few times in the preseason, showing that he's not afraid of the rough stuff, and he's mobile enough to stick in the NHL.
