A .918 save percentage. As a starter, it's even better: .924.At home: an impressive .948. No doubt Jonas Gustavsson will play a significant role in making the Air Canada Centre a difficult place to play once again.Shorthanded: a sublime .900. Up there with the big boys. Essentially: the anti-Vesa Toskala, who owns a .771 save percentage when there's four or fewer Toronto Maple Leafs in front of him. In Gustavsson's last four starts, the Leafs are 89% (16-18) on the penalty kill.Goaltending cures all. It triples Toronto's win total. The sample size is small. But I can't help think that Gustavsson will single-handedly lead the Leafs to the playoffs, and to the most improbable of Stanley Cup championships, winning the Conn Smythe, Calder and Vezina Trophies along the way, in a magical season the likes of which we'll never see again get my hopes up.

Canes show interest in Toskala?

With Cam Ward still in the hospital, it was announced today that Carolina is looking at adding goaltending depth to their team. I was told by a source today that one player the team has looked at is Vesa Toskala. Toskala is in the final year of a $4 million per year deal, and is one of the few potential starting goaltenders available on the trade market. To offset the cost, the...

Jason Blake on playing with Phil Kessel.

Interesting interview with former Sioux Jason Blake, nice to see the Maple Leafs putting the two offensively gifted players on the same line (a Sioux and a Gopher on the same line). I also wonder why the person conducting the interview would compare Kessel to Hull, their two different types of players in my opinion.

The NHL's top secret flow chart for handing out suspensions

Why do some NHL players get long suspensions while other get nothing for the same hit? Do they pick these numbers out of a hat? Brad Ratgen: Hall of Shame Game in Toronto Tonight (Wild vs. Leafs)

A bad start and horrible road trip to begin this season necessitates a great road trip now against 3 out of 4 beatable teams (Toronto, Tampa Bay, Washington and Carolina). The Wild face-off tonight against the struggling, but re-surgent Toronto Maple Leafs apparently sparked by the newly added and fresh from injured reserve, Phil Kessel. Many Minnesotanâ??s still recall Kesselâ...

Not The Place For A Winter Classic

from Jeff Blair of the Globe and Mail, I have no problem with the fact the Toronto Maple Leafs want to play host to the NHL All-Star Game, as much of a fraudulent cash grab disguised as an afternoon skate as it is anyhow. But, honestly: by what stretch does BMO Field deserve to be the site of the annual outdoor game, an event that has had a surprising shelf life and if nothing...

Leafs leave door open for second NHL team in GTA

The relocation issue had been one of the central issues argued in the Phoenix courtroom, and a letter from the Leafs to the league disputed the NHL's position on relocation.

Minnesota Wild (6-10-0) at Toronto Maple Leafs (3-7-5), 7 p.m.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will try to keep moving in the right direction as they will try for a third straight win when they host the Minnesota Wild tonight at Air Canada Centre.

Brian Burke's Fuzzy Picture Starts To Come Into Focus?
