NHL: (video) Panthers Zednik gets neck cut with hockey skate

Florida Panthers forward Richard Zednik was in stable condition last night after getting slashed in the neck by a teammates skate. Zednik underwent surgery to close the gash on the right side of his neck. "The surgery was successful and he's resting comfortably in the hospital," Panthers spokesman Brian Goldman said. When skating on ice with really sharp blades, its always a danger in the NHL that someone is going to get cut. It rarely happens that someone gets their carotid artery sliced. Here's the video of Richard Zednik getting his throat cut open, hitting that major artery, and the blood that gushed on the ice. The scared look on Zednik's face says it all.

Upon reaching the locker room, doctors attempted to stop the bleeding by applying pressure to Zednik's neck. So much pressure that Zednik complained they were hurting his neck. Dr. Leslie Bisson, team doctor of the Buffalo Sabres was seated in the fifth row and quickly left his seat to help after realizing what had occurred.

Harking back to memories of 1989, Buffalo once again witnessed the scariest injury in hockey as Richard Zednik suffered a cut jugular vein after being hit in the neck by falling teammate, Olli Jokinen on Sunday night. Players immediately waved for training personnel. As the trainers entered the ice, they waved for the stretcher, but it was not needed.

If you haven't heard, Richard Zednik of the Florida Panther got a serious cut to the neck by his teammate Olli Jokinen. He's in stable condition and is in surgery. Here's the video: If you are squeamish I wouldn't watch but MSG did a nice job not showing all the blood.
