Most readers of my work will tell you that the main focus of my writing is centered around the Boston Bruins' organization. However, from time to time, it is necessary to mention what other teams around the NHL are doing. Today, that focus shifts to a rather interesting situation involving the New York Islanders.2008-09 was a less than stellar season for the New York Islanders, who finished the campaign with a mere 61 points for their 26-47-9 record. They did just that, selecting forward John Tavares with the first overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Tavares should turn out to be quite the addition for the Islanders, who netted the second fewest goals in the league (201), only trailing the Colorado Avalanche (199). The 18-year old finished his junior career with 433 points in 247 regular season games with the Oshawa Generals and London Knights.Aside from the off...

Baffling Move By Snow Lands Biron In Long Island
The New York Islanders have signed unrestricted free agent goalie Martin Biron to a one-year, $1.4 million contract. Seems like a decent move, as Biron is a decent goalie, putting up a .915 save percentage and a 2.76 goals against average with the Flyers this past season.

Calling The Maven
from Stan Fischler of Game On,
It isn’t often that I get a phone call from Martin Biron.
Actually, over a half-century of covering hockey I’ve never received a buzz on the buzzer from any NHL goalie; at least not out of the blue like this one....
