The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed forward Fredrik Modin on injured reserve and made several other moves to reduce their roster to 23 players heading into Saturday's opener against Minnesota. General manager Scott Howson announced Tuesday that the veteran Modin, who has a knee injury, will start the year on IR.
