Wow. 6 games? Can you say 'track record'???
While I expected Donald Brashear to be suspended for Game 7 on Tuesday night, I did not expect such a lengthy one. The AP story explains it like this:
Brashear is being punished Monday for two separate actions -- one before and one during Washington's 5-3 victory in Game 6 at New York on Sunday. He was suspended for one game for making contact with Rangers forward Colton Orr in pregame warmups. Brashear will miss five additional games for what the NHL is calling a "blind-side hit" on Rangers forward Blair Betts midway through the first period.
Betts will miss Game 7 with a broken orbital bone.
Well, what's done is done. With Betts suffering such a bad injury, it's hard for me to complain about it. Betts may have had his head down, but he clearly was shooting the puck into the Caps zone and was headed off for a line change. It was a cheap shot. I don't understand if this had to do with the pregame warmups. Orr is as much of a trouble maker as Brash and you can't tell me he had nothing to do with goading Brash into a confrontation during the warmup.
So now the question becomes who will replace Brash in the lineup? Chris Clark has been told to "be ready" and he is the type of player we need anyway rather than Michael Nylander. It's not as if Clark would be playing 15+ minutes. He'd be playing around 10. I say put the captain in.
For a nice perspective (for Caps fans) of the recent craziness of the series, check out this story from The Hockey News.

Rangers Sent Home in Game 7 Loss To Caps
The collapse is complete. The New York Rangers had a 3-1 lead in their opening round Eastern Conference series against the Washington Capitals. A third-period goal by Sergei Fedorov sent the Broadway Blues home after a 2-1 in DC.
Brash Gets Banished
Washington Capitals' winger Donald Brashear won't be a game 7 participant, so sayeth the NHL's Enforcement Czar, Colin Campbell. Brashear this afternoon was suspended by the league for six games for his late hit at center ice Sunday on Ranger's center Blair Betts. Betts suffered a broken orbital bone from the hit.

Bruins late heroics drives 2-1 win over Capitals
Thank you Donald Brashear.
He’s one of the toughest players in the NHL - he also happens to be one of the dumbest.
With his team up 1-0 late in the 3rd, Brashear took a costly 6 minute penalty (high sticking + roughing) in the last seven minutes of this afternoons game.
Boston went on to score ...
Funny Video on Simeon Varlamov.
Rookie goalie Simeon Varlamov is 20 years old and doesn't speak any English just Russian. I think the Washington Capitals are going to want to get him to English immersion classes very soon, because I could see this kid playing in the NHL for some time. It also doesn't look like he needs a razor very often. (watch the video here)
Poti torches former team to lead Caps in 5-3 win
Tom Poti torched his former team with 1 goal and 3 assists to lead the way in the Caps tying up this series. The tape to tape pass play where David Steckel set Poti up for his goal was a thing of beauty. Poti's holding his ear up for the fans on his way off the ice after his post game interview cracked me up, but the Caps need to win another game so it's no time for cockiness...

ESPN Got Pranked Yesterday
On Sports Center yesterday, ESPN reported that both Mike Green and Donald Brashear of the Capitals had been suspended. SWEET REDEMPTION!!!
11 years of frustration looked like it was going to be 12 years of frustration. The Caps came out flat and were outplayed for the first 40 minutes. But the goaltending of Simeon Varlamov kept them in it and the old man got it done in the 3rd. Who else put Sergei Fedorov could have come though with such a huge goal? What a shot and what an atmosphere at Verizon Center. I wish I...
Caps rip Rangers, force Game 7 in Washington
Given a chance on home ice to finish off the Washington Capitals and advance to the second round of the playoffs, the Rangers once again laid an egg and paid a hefty price, a 5-3 pasting that forces a deciding seventh game on Tuesday night in D.C.
