Through the first three Group A practices, Canes coach Paul Maurice has been consistent with the lines he's used.
Eric Staal has centered Tuomo Ruutu and Erik Cole. Matt Cullen has centered Chad LaRose and Ray Whitney, and Rod Brind'Amour has been the center with wingers Scott Walker and Sergei Samsonov.
The fourth line: Stephane Yelle at center, with Tim Conboy and Tom Kostopoulos on the wings.

And I thought that once we started playing well, and part of it was due to injury that we really did start moving people around.
"Once we feel that everybody has an understanding of how we're playing without the puck and what we're trying to do offensively, then you can move pieces around and chemistry is not quite as important. And we had re...

Sutter's goal: win back roster spot
Canes center Brandon Sutter has the kind of problem many of us can only long for.
"I just don't gain weight," he said Monday.
At 6 feet 3, Sutter is as lean and lanky as a cross-country runner. His listed weight is 183 pounds and he says he's doing anything and everything he can to get bigger and push past the 190 barrier. With no luck.
"I'm still...
Preseason lines to have age factor
Canes coach Paul Maurice plans to mix veterans with younger players in the first couple of exhibition games, but only to a point.
You won't see, say, prospect Zach Boychuk on the wing with Eric Staal at center. Maurice and the coaches more likely will roll out a line of Boychuk, Brandon Sutter and Drayson Bowman — respective ages 19, 20 and 20.

Maurice upfront with an old friend
Canes coach Paul Maurice recently got a call from an old friend seeking some solid information.
It was Florida Panthers coach Peter DeBoer, asking about defenseman Dennis Seidenberg. A free agent, Seidenberg was still unsigned, the Panthers were looking for a veteran blue-liner and Seidenberg was coming off a strong year with the Canes.
What to do? If the Panthers signed Seidenberg...

Eric Staal ‘Wired’ During Training Camp Practice
Carolina Hurricanes forward Eric Staal was wired for sound recently during training camp practice at the RBC Center in Raleigh.
Canes make most of practice
With 19 days before the season opener, the Canes plan to take advantage of every minute. There is no down time.
"It leaves you not a tremendous amount of prep time," coach Paul Maurice said today. "That being said, that's why this whole camp is designed the way it is — to give ourselves a chance.
"We're going to get into power play, penalty killing...
