By my count the Oilers have four men left to sign via restricted free agency: Ladislav Smid, Ryan Stone, Gilbert Brule and Rob Schremp. One would think the Smid signing is a no-brainer unless #5 expects a big payday. It's also very likely young Gilbert Brule will be eager to sign since there looks to be an NHL job waiting for him at training camp.Ryan Stone might be a little difficult if he wants a one-way deal (the numbers don't favor Stone) and that leaves young Rob Schremp.Could it be that one or both (Stone and Schremp) are holding out for a one-way deal that isn't coming? Has Schremp in fact asked for a trade? Two of the final four rfa's (Smid and Brule) would seem to have much better futures in the organization (unless traded) than the other two.If you were Schremp or Stone's agent, would you suggest they head to Europe for a payday? Liam Reddox signed a contract today that will pay him less than many who read this blog should he end up in the minor leagues....

Reddox Signs with Oilers

A rather bizarre story ended in a good way today with the news Liam Reddox has signed a one-year, two way contract with Edmonton. Earlier this summer, tsn reported that the rookie winger had not only rejected his qualifying offer but also had plans to play in Europe in 09-10. I described it as "unusual" and it appears the idea of a two-way deal may have been the reason...

Falcons 09-10 Reasonable Expectations (F)

This is Ryan Potulny. Based on minor league performance he has earned a long look at training camp this fall. With the Edmonton Oilers coming off another year with no second season, with Potulny finishing 3rd in league goal scoring (38 total) there would seem to be an opportunity.Should Potulny be sent out and spend another season in Springfield, I don't think it's reasonable...

The Next Gagner!

As the "summer of change" bleeds out across Edmonton and area it's probably a good idea to look at the minor leagues (and below) for help. Although the Falcons struggled badly for much of the season there were some difference makers and a few good men who might force their way onto the roster.Add to that the junior and college players who may be able to ignite the fanbase...

Could This Be The Year Hemsky Breaks Out?

Ever since his 77 point season in 05-06 followed by the Edmonton Oilers magical Stanley Cup run, Oilers fans have been waiting for Ales Hemsky to take the next step and become an "elite" player by reaching the 80 point plateau. Every year, people always ask the question, "Will this be the year?" All the signs seem to point to yes. Last year Hemsky showed flashes...

Liking Dany Heatley

From Stan Fischler at MaxHockey.com: Has anyone—with the possible exception of Edmonton Oilers leaders Kevin Lowe and Steve Tambellini—stopped to think that maybe, just maybe, there is something to like about this broth of a boy who can score goals better than most of his brethren? The Maven believes that there is and, furthermore, I insist that we disband the...
