Canes forward Chad LaRose has signed a two-year contract that will pay him $1.5 million next year and $1.9 million in the second season, general manager Jim Rutherford said today. LaRose, an unrestricted free agent, had a one-year contract last season that paid him $875,000. Unable to reach an early agreement with the Canes, he tested the NHL's free-agent market for two days before re-signing with Carolina. "This works out fine," Rutherford said of the contract. "It's the same contract that we gave Jussi Jokinen. It makes sense within our structure and is justifiable to both sides." Jokinen, a restricted free agent forward, also received a two-year contract that will pau him a total of $3.4 million.

CHAD LAROSE!

Chad LaRose signed a two-year deal today, for the cheap cheap price of $1.5 this season and $1.9 the next!Well, this means the Canes are pretty much set for '09-'10, right? Haha, I wish. But I don't think it would be right to see LaRose in a jersey other than Carolina's. So it's very good that the Canes were able to retain him and all of his unstoppable energy.

Talking Points: The NHL soap opera

From Talking Points:  As far as the Hurricanes are concerned, it's funny how much can change overnight. Q & A with a member of the Carolina Hurricanes Storm Squad

When I covered the idea of what it takes to be a cheerleader in the NHL and whether or not it has a place in hockey, many readers commented on the site or emailed me with a range of opinions on this subject.  Not surprisingly some were positive and others felt it was a needless distraction. Luckily, [...]
