I'll start off by saying I am, of course, biased. The Capitals are my favorite team. That being said, the decision to have the Flyers take on the Bruins at Fenway Park next New Year's in the Winter Classic proves yet again that the NHL is run by idiots. Morons. You do realize, Bettman and co., that you want to showcase the stars in your league? You realize you want something special on New Year's. How the hell do you decide to pick Philly to play in this game??? No offense to Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, Simon Gagne, etc.. but how can you not want Alex Ovechkin to play in your biggest game of the season??? And it's not as if the Caps are some bad team with one great player. You have a team filled with great young talent, led by a guy who has won back to back Hart Trophies. How can you be so unbelieveably dumb? Well, I know Mr. Bettman, I know. You've been ruining my favorite sports for years. The past 2 Winter Classics have been great. I understand getting Pittsburgh to play Buffalo in the first one. You wanted to showcase Sidney Crosby. I get it. Last season's was awesome at Wrigley with the Red Wings and Blackhawks going at it. A great original 6 rivalry. I would have understood had they decided to have Montreal face Boston this upcoming season. That's an original 6, plus it's a big time rivalry. But Philly???? Come on. That's ridiculous. Great job Gary. We'll just put this one on the long list of things you have done to bury this game. You are being bailed out somewhat due to the great talent in the league now, but you have done amazing damage to a league that, for some reason, continues to let you run it. You are the Matt Millen of the NHL. How many more years of mismanagement will it take? We'll just let the Coyotes go bankrupt and continue to have to search the cable guide to see just where the hell Versus is. Keep it up big man. Now the other news. Sergei Fedorov is going to Russia. He signed a 2 year deal in the KHL and will be leaving the NHL. I guess I can't blame him. He's won 3 Cups and it's an opportunity to go home and play with his brothers. He's making $3.8 million a year which is much more than the Caps could have offered. It's a shame, but hopefully the year-plus he spent in D.C. set a good example for the rest of the young players. He will be missed, but this just means the Caps need to step up and grab a veteran center in a trade.
