Varlamov’s New Mask
Simeon Varlamov is sporting a new mask at practice, and it was just posted on the team’s Flickr page. It looks like a combination of Russian and American imagery. The right side depicts Mount Rushmore, a Capitals Logo, and the American Flag. The left side depicts a Russian Double Headed Eagle, another Caps Logo, and [...]
MTV's 'The Real World' Invades Capitals Practice
The Washington Capitals, despite not even making the Stanley Cup finals last season, are probably one of the two or three “hottest” teams in the NHL. And hey, with a player like Alex Ovechkin leading the charge, why not? The Caps don’t have the tradition of the Original Six by any stretch, but they’ve assimilated [...]

Alexander Ovechkin Takes His Wii Very Seriously
Alexander Ovechkin stopped traffic yesterday so he could drive a Zamboni down Manhattan's Sixth Avenue and then school me in some video game hockey. Not as fun as doing 180 with Rachel Nichols riding shotgun, but it was only Wednesday. Believe it or not, NHL training camps open this weekend and that means press junkets galore. Ovechkin is the cover boy for 2K Sports' NHL...

A New Season Begins
Hockey's back! The evidence was everywhere out at Kettler Capitals on Monday. The GM looked on from on high. All of the organization's coaches were in teaching uniform and out on the ice. Local hockey media (as well as the ABC TV affiliate from Hershey/Harrisburg) arrived in strong numbers. And the stands were basically filled. At 10:30 Monday morning blades brimming with...
Shouldering his next shot
Of the roughly two dozen prospects going through the paces at Kettler Capitals Iceplex this week, it is possible no player has more to gain or lose this season than defenseman Josh Godfrey. Once bestowed the lofty expectations of being a high second-round pick, Godfrey scuffled a bit during his first season as a professional. Problems with both shoulders and a nasty cut on his leg...
Finally, the collision between MTV's 'The Real World' and NHL
"This is the true story of one of seven strangers, picked to live in a house in D.C. despite nasty protests and have his life taped ... to find out what happens when people stop being polite and start mysterious internships with the Washington Capitals."It was revealed late last month that Ty Ruff of Baltimore, a cast member for the D.C.-based 23rd season of MTV's reality...

Alexander Ovechkin Invades New York City
On Wednesday, Alexander Ovechkin visited the NHL store in New York City and I had the pleasure being right in the thick of things. Ovechkin arrived in grand fashion as he drove a zamboni for a block which featured the cover of NHL2K10 on which he appears on.
Ovechkin then signed autographs for those lucky enough to snag a pre-order of the game which hits shelves next week. While...
