Word tonight that the Edmonton Oilers have sent out Theo Peckham. He'll join the Springfield Falcons and won't make the trip west with the big club. Peckham didn't play well during this callup, owing to a pre-season injury and no training camp. Not to overstate the issue, but the Oilers have a tremendous number of young defensemen coming through the system and this would have been a very good time for Peckham to establish himself at the NHL level. That slot has been earned by Taylor Chorney this fall, so that next training camp he'll have established himself with this team and this coach. Jeff Petry will turn pro, Alex Plante and Johan Motin will have one year's experience at the pro level, and Pat Quinn will still be waiting to see Theo Peckham at his best.I don't think this season's first two months will heavily impact Peckham's career, but it gives us another example of how much injury impacts these young prospects and especially young defenders. The Importance of (Robert) Being Earnest
Robert Nilsson is in danger of taking a (called) strike two in his major league career. Already sent along (from NYI) as part of a three-pronged trade for a rental, Nilsson had one strong season that led to a payday and has been skipping classes and allowing his mind to wander since that day. Most of us can relate at some level. As someone whose reports cards often contained the...
The Weighting is the Hardest Part
The worst team in Oilers history was probably the 1992-93 team. They lost 50 games, traded away half the team and were so bad the draft gave them Jason Arnott the following summer. That season was a mess at center ice. Bernie Nicholls was traded during the year, as was Brent Gilchrist and Josef Beranek. And those were only the centers! Among the other players sent away that winter...

A Quality Taylor?
During MacT's 8 seasons as Oilers coach his team sent a lot of rookie defensemen to the majors. There were high picks and low picks and kids who didn't get picked in the draft.
