by Christopher BottaFiled under: Flames, NHL FightsThe New York Islanders and the Calgary Flames are staging another exhibition on Saturday night, this time in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Dion Phaneuf should show up.This recommendation is not a critique of Phaneuf's crushing mid-ice check in Thursday's game that sent Islanders rising star forward Kyle Okposo to the hospital with a concussion. We've all seen these incidents enough to know the arguments:If you're for the Islanders, Phaneuf left his feet, nailed Okposo in the head with an elbow and shamefully used a practice game to make a personal statement that he's not getting softer. If you're for the Flames, Phaneuf never left his feet, obliterated Okposo with a clean shoulder hit and was simply "just playing his game." If you're NHL discipline czar Colin Campbell, you're preparing a ruling that will make everyone think, "Really?"

The Phaneuf Hit: Clean, dirty or just plain unacceptable?
Dion Phaneuf's open-ice wallop on Kyle Okposo(notes) of the New York Islanders last night has sparked another passionate debate about the legality and morality of such a hit; but it also expanded the argument into one about what, exactly, preseason hockey should look like (or whether it should exist at all).We pointed to Two-Line's coverage of the hit in last night's...
Islanders' Morency suspended indefinitely
New York Islanders forward Pascal Morency has been suspended indefinitely after leaving the bench to start a fight with Calgary defenseman Dion Phaneuf.
The NHL announced the suspension Friday. No date for a hearing has been set.
Phaneuf's hit knocked out Islanders forward Kyle Okposo in the second period of the Flames' 5-4 shootout victory Thursday night in an exhibition...
Dion Phaneuf hammers Kyle Okposo
This is the hit that everyone has been talking about since last night. I looked at the hit a few times and the appears to be clean but kind of questionable, I think the hit is in the grey area, one could make the argument that it was a head shot, it does appear from the video that Phaneuf lead with his elbow when he hit Okposo. Now on the other end of the hit, Kyle Okposo...
New York Islanders' Pascal Morency is suspended indefinitely
New York Islanders forward Pascal Morency has been suspended indefinitely after leaving the bench to start a fight with Calgary defenseman Dion Phaneuf
Dion Phaneuf is a *******
And no, this post has nothing to do with Sean Avery (shock). Earlier tonight, in a preseason game between the Calgary Flames and the New York Islanders, Dion Phaneuf clearly thought that a match ...Read the full article on Bleacher Report...
Islanders' Pascal Morency suspended indefinitely
NEW YORK (AP) -New York Islanders forward Pascal Morency has been suspended indefinitely after leaving the bench to start a fight with Calgary defenseman Dion Phaneuf.
GARTH: PAHEUF OPENS CAN OF WHOOP ASS
I've watched "the hit" at least 10 times today.
My opinion:
Dion Phaneuf could have avoided blasting Kyle Okposo with his shoulder. Watch the play (above0, and you'll see Phaneuf's skates leave the ice. Thats a helluva whallop to deliver to Okposo's face.
Hight fives to young Morency and Marty Biron for wanting to exact a pound of flesh for...

Phaneuf With His Side Of The Story
from Vicki Hall of the Calgary Herald via the National Post,
Go ahead. Call Calgary Flames defenceman Dion Phaneuf a coward for refusing to drop the gloves in the aftermath of his vicious open-ice hit that sent New York Islanders forward Kyle Okposo to hospital.
Tell Phaneuf he violated the unwritten NHL code by declining the many challenges to fight from Okposo’s teammates...
Flames-Islanders the Preseason Game for the Ages
Last night’s Calgary-Islanders might have been the game of late 2008. It was like some kind of movie.
You had Dion Phaneuf’s massive open-ice hit on Islander Kyle Okposo (Okposo has a mild concussion).
The one bright spot for the Islanders was that Okposo’s teammates immediately came to his defense, attempting to fight Phaneuf the whole [...]

Okposo Was Defenseless On Phaneuf Hit
from Katie Strang of Isles Files at Newsday,
Thankfully Kyle Okposo is OK. He has a mild concussion and was cleared by doctors to fly back with the team on the charter to Saskatoon.
Okposo was the victim of a vicious open-ice hit from Flames defenseman Dion Phaneuf. I’ve watched the replay several times, and if I were Okposo or his teammate I would not be happy. Phaneuf...
