Last year’s first round exit at the hands of the eventual Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins was a disappointing end to a season full of promise. With the taste of that bitter loss still fresh, [...]

Twitter-Style Flyers Previews
If you're a Flyers fan, you've no doubt read a good 5-10 previews for the upcoming season already. Our official preview will be posted in a bit, but I wanted to real quick share with you another blogger's unique spin on the season ahead. Ronnybrook has encapsulated each player's role into a 140-character-or-less tweet, and it's pretty good. Can't say I agree...
Flyers finalize roster: JVR in, no Betts yet
With the NHL roster due at 3 pm today, the Flyers made their final moves to get their roster ready for Friday's opening game. An NHL team is able to keep 23 players on their roster so the Flyers had to shift a couple of players around to fit everyone in.As expected, rookie phenom James van Riemsdyk made the team after a strong preseason showing where he basically forced himself...
Blair Betts is (finally) a Flyer
It took longer than it should have, but training camp invitee Blair Betts has finally signed with the Flyers. According to Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly, Betts, who will be the 4th line center, signed a one year deal with the team. There was some hold-up with the money involved and that made the deal take longer than expected.Betts is the perfect complementary player for the Flyers...

Flyers, Hurricanes have high hopes this season

Tim Panaccio: JVR a Flyer
JVR is a Flyer.
The Flyers have not announced it officially, but he told us today after practice he is making the road trip to start the season.
That means, he must be on the roster since it's due 3 p.m. today.
There was no way the FLyers could keep him off it. Just like, I feel this is no way they can keep Mika Pyorala off the roster, as well.
BTW: Randy JOnes practiced...
Eklund: Is The Atlantic Division the Easiest to Predict in the NHL?
Of course I must fully disclose that this is the division I cover the most as an accredited media member of the Philadelphia Flyers, but even as I try my best to separate myself from that, I am left with a sense that this division is pretty much as predictable as it comes.
Perhaps the hardest pick in this division for me is the top spot. You may call me a homer were I to pick...

Bill Meltzer: Practice notebook: 10-1-09
Tim will have an update on his blog and CSN column, but here are some quick notes from practice:
* The Flyers have signed Blair Betts to a one-year contract.
* Brian Boucher worked out early this morning and has made some progress in recovering from his groin injury.
* Minor league goalie Michael Teslak worked out with the club today along with Johan Backlund. According...
