I don't know that a minor league player can do more to get noticed than Ryan Potulny did a year ago. His 38 goals lapped the field in Springfield, with the second place finisher (Gilbert Brule) a full 25 goals behind him. Aside from that, there was only one other Falcon in double digits (Colin McDonald, 10) and there were really only 4 forwards who helped at all offensively (Brule, Ryan Stone, Schremp, Linglet after he arrived) aside from #17.In order for Potulny to make the opening night roster some things will have to break for him. He'll need to count on Pat Quinn to decide Steve MacIntyre can't help, that it is worth risking waivers for Rob Schremp, that Liam Reddox doesn't bring enough and that Jason Strudwick is still a better option for 7D than Theo Peckham. Those are all considerations. However, Potulny gives the coach all kinds of options up front and has played center in the NHL (he was 43.5% in 278 sorties as a Flyer a few years ago). I think he's the 1...

RE 09-10: Gilbert Brule
Let's agree we're never going to mention where Gilbert Brule was taken in the draft ever again.Ever.Gilbert Brule had an average season in the American Hockey League. Don't take my word for it, Jonathan Willis told you here.PLUS the "saw him good" crowd have chimed in with the same opinion. Steve Tambellini spoke about Brule's season earlier this week:"...
RE: 09-10 Oiler Forwards
The current group of forwards on the Oilers depth chart is capable of exceptional beauty and moments of extreme consternation. Last season during my reasonable expectations posts I suggested the Oilers forwards would score 215 goals; the idea was that with two scoring lines Edmonton would rip up the NW division offensively.Last year's list featured one 30 goal prediction (Penner...
Devan Dubnyk- The Quotes
A recent interview with Guy Flaming on the Team's Pipeline show gave us an indication about just how much confidence Devan Dubnyk has in his ability. He basically said he's coming to camp this fall with the idea that he's staying with the big club until someone tells him he doesn't belong. Dubnyk feels he has progressed at the minor league level and is ready to make...
Messier denies Edmonton report
The Captain disputes the part of the New York Post report that said he interviewed for the Edmonton Oilers’ coaching position with his good buddy and Oilers boss Kevin Lowe.
Here’s the link to the story on Faceoff.com.

RE 09-10: Zack Stortini
I hate like hell writing about Zack Stortini. Why? Everyone thinks I don't like the guy and that just isn't true. Stortini has exceeded expectations beyond a shadow of a doubt and represents a rip double to the wall for the scouting department as they delivered a solid pick 94th overall in 2003.I think a good comp for Stortini is the fellow in the photo, Casey Candaele. A...

The Official Home of the Calgary Flames on radio, the Fan 960, went so far as to call themselves the Official Home of the Carolina Hurricanes. Couldn't have anything to do with on-personality Rob Kerr's love of the song Brass Bonanza.
