I'm not sure if there were still any fans out there that believed Montoya was considered a blue-chip prospect - especially after the former first-round pick lost his job in Hartford this season to the unheralded Miika Wiikman. Nevertheless, this is a blow to a franchise that, at the very least, expected to be able to spin the highly-touted Montoya for a valuable asset in the wake of Henrik Lundqvist's emergence as a premier NHL netminder.

  • Leneveu is nothing to frown at. He's actually being reunited with his goaltending coach, so this is a great move. Hossa? Well, I like his brother, but Marcel has never done much....

Rangers Rebounding | Slats Won't Trade Jagr

Since the recent success, or perhaps in spite of it, GM Glen Sather has announced that he will not be trading 36-year-old Jagr. "If I was to ask him to leave, he might say yes. But I don't plan on talking to him about that (trade)," Sather told the Edmonton Journal. "Trade Jagr? Nobody's called me on him. Why would I want to do that?" Sather even...

Rangers Play It Safe At Trade Deadline

Sather has established a pattern of making deals which upgrade troubled areas instead of trying to change the face of the organization all at once. These low-risk/high-reward moves have paid off in getting the Rangers to the playoffs two years in a row while not risking the future. The Rangers of the 21st century no longer trade the farm for Eric Lindros or Pavel Bure and instead...

Rangers Acquire Prospect Schremp?

According to Hockey Trade Rumors (who have been pretty spot-on all day), it's rumored that the Rangers have acquired Robbie Schremp from the Edmonton Oilers. We'll let you know as this is confirmed or debunked. Larry Brooks first reported in the Post this week on the Rangers interest in Schremp, the Oilers' first-round pick in 2004. According to Brooks, Schremp has...

Rangers Postgame Video: Win over Predators

Henrik Lundqvist made history in Nashville, becoming the only goalie to win 30 games in his first four seasons, as the Rangers defeated the Predators, 4-2, Thursday night.

This Week in Rangers Hockey (Wetting Their Pants Edition)

“We kind of wet our pants a little there and had that look,” said John Tortorella poetically after the game on Sunday against the Bruins. And Henrik Lundqvist has been suffering from the stomach flu, and threw up between periods last Sunday. So the Rangers are peeing in their pants and throwing up, but isn’t that what playoff-style [...]

Shanny Nears Ranger Return

According to Larry Brooks in the New York Post, the New York Rangers are close to completing a team-friendly deal that would bring Brendan Shanahan back to Broadway for another season and allow the team some desperately needed flexibility with their payroll. "Glen [Sather] has been really good in communicating with me while he was dealing with the [Henrik Lundqvist and...

Previewing the NHL Draft: My Top Ten Sleepers

Not every player draft in the first round will be a superstar. You will have the Alexandre Daigle, Patrik Stefan, Hugh Jessiman, and Stanislav Chistov who showed some promise in their teens but didn't pan out at the NHL Level. Then you have players that were overlooked the first round like Henrik Zetterberg, Paval Datsyuk, Henrik Lundqvist, Jaroslav Halak and insert your favorite...
