The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired the rights to Phil Kessel after months of talks with the Boston Bruins, the teams said Friday.
In return for the rights to negotiate with the restricted free agent, Toronto sent a first and second-round pick in the 2010 draft to Boston, along with another first-round pick in 2011.

News started trickling out a couple of hours ago that Phil Kessel, holdout and king of this summer's Bruins saga, was going to be traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs were the front runners again, taking the spot from the Nashville Predators.

Per TSN's Darren Dreger, the Leafs and Bruins have reached an agreement on a trade that would send Phil Kessel to Toronto.

According to good friend Darren Dreger, as well as the National Post, the Toronto Maple Leafs are close to finalizing a deal that would send two first-round picks and a second-rounder to the Boston Bruins for star forward Phil Kessel.
The deal is apparently not done, but finishing touches are being put on, and the Leafs are awaiting the conference call to confirm the deal.
